cam chain tensioner
hey guys, my bike is off the road again, i need a new cam chian tensioner, im getting an enqiry from japan but it seems like its going to take a long time, roughly a few months, is there anywhere i can find a used one, becuase most wreckers won't sell it seperate forma engine and they will probably only sell me one of a worn out motor?
i don't want aftermarket, i just want the stock standard replacement, has anyone had to change the tensioner on thier kawa, any shops you recommend i can take it to get it fixed, im running out of options and ideas.
i got another kawa aswell, ready to wreck, but i don't want to pull that motor apart and ruin another tensioner, im also thinking of getting that other motor of the wrecked bike into my bike but it will be a hassel so i would rather work to find a cam chain tensioner before i think about replacing motors.
cheers.

Re: cam chain tensioner
For the small ammount it would take to remove the tensioner from the wreck & install it on your bike to see if it is better, you have nothing to loose
..... Have you been told it is the tensioner or is it the guide inside the motor that is worn?

Re: cam chain tensioner
well what the mechanic showed and told me, i need the inside pieces of the cct, the o ring, the spring, and 3 other pieces. Im pulling my bike out of the mechanics shop and im going to try and find another one, but the thing is, not alot of mechanics would want to touch my bike since its a grey import.
and if i take out the cct out of the wreck, there would be a possibility that it can also be worn out, or that even if its good, ( out of the wreck) then i have a block just sitting there. I don't know how to pull out the cct so atm thats why it was in the shop.
dave at first it was a small rattle, i didn't mind it at all, it didnt bother me, but as i took it to the shop to have a look at the whole bike he said to tighten it. I wasn't fussy but i regret saying "yeah tighten it then".
last week i went there to see the progress, and he started it for me, it sounded like a lawnmower or a mazda 20b rotary, it was so lumpy it felt like the cams just want to burst out of the engine, i think he must of stuffed something up.
hence i want to pull it out and take it somewhere else. So im still stuck on what to do.
oh and btw dave, if you bike is an 07 model, isnt it a bit to early for your cct to make a rattle now, i thought they were automatic and tighten themselves up, and by saying that, do zx636 and 600's have a cam chain and not a belt drive?

My thoughts exactly but hey shit happens. It only appears to have a problem initially setting took it to Aitkens and they said there is no drama's with riding it for now but they do get fixed under warrenty...And yes they are a chain and automatic.....I also read somewhere on here maybe that they can be replaced with a manual tesioner might have even been one of your threads....

Re: cam chain tensioner
yeah it was, but its not what im after, i prefer to fix it and don't touch it lol not open up half the bike and tighten it every now and then.
what shop do you take your bike into, maybe they might have a look at my one.
I was thinking of going to mototech because its not far from where i live. im transporting the bike in a van so im not exactly 100% assured of its safety because i have dropped it once in the van and the top is abit bent. i have proper straps now but still dont feel 100% safe driving far away.
