For my ZXR, this is what I had to do.

Remove front fairing and fuel tank to get at the wiring. Unplug the ignition from the rest of the loom.
Remove the triple clamp.
Using a bench drill and vise, drill out the tamper screws.
Remove ignition. Take it to your local locksmith, who will pull the barrel apart to get the ridge pattern. (the key number for the ZXR250's is actually on the key, not the ignition. Someone was asleep when they thought of that  )

I was charged no more than $25 for their time and 2 keys. They might even be able to provide new tamper screws as well, though I don't know how you would put them in.
Most motorcycle problems are caused by the nut that connects the handlebars to the saddle.

Just wondering, do i have to take the ignition barrel out or can i take the seat lock out? i figure the seat lock would be easier to get at than the ignition...

well...some of you said this would happen when i made my copy...but thankfully its happened before... The damned thing turned up today!

Speaking to a locksmith today he asked me to get a code off the ignition barrel and he should be able to make a key from that. So i grabbed it and walked back to my computer desk, as i move a magazine to get a piece of paper from under it, out comes the key from within the pages...

I reckon I must of dropped it on my desk then piled more crap on it and pushed the key between the pages by accident...

I am still going to go to Aitkens and get my spare key tho :)

well 10 years is a long time. I did give up looking for this key after 4 days...
Maybe Owen is right, therapy will help. Maybe Hypno therapy will make you remember where you put it :)
