ZZR 1100 D4 Front Brakes

Post by Accolades »

I have a ZZR1100 D4 that has some serious issues with front brakes (so flamin spongey that will hardly stop!!).

I have been quoted ~$300 to fully service the calipers as it appears I am only getting 50% use out of the breaks.

I have replaced the Lines with twin braided but has not made any difference.

Any suggestions?

ps they have been bled and re-bled without any improvement.

When you work it out, would you let me know?! My D3 sounds about as bad as your D4 and I've got Goodridge braided lines and discs. I'm going to flush the fluid and try new pads.

If I can find a set cheap enough, I'm going to do the Gixxer 1K 6-pot swap.

You do need to remember that our bikes weigh somewhere in the order of 270kg (wet), not taking into account our weight. ;)

Sounds like the pistons are binding? try replacing the caliper seals, use a bit of high temp grease & it will be like a new bike ;)

from memory a set of GSXR1000 K2 (2002) calipers bolt straight onto the D's! I have fitted the same calipers to my ZX6R F1 and they provide a lot more power with loads more feel, but you need a larger M/C to go with it. I tried finding Kawasaki calipers which would cross fit, but gave up after not finding any info on the net. I tripped over this on a US racing website ages ago.
