Fairing repairs

Have posted this on the OCAU forums but I though you guys might like a look. After my crash I pretty much totalled all the big fairings and in my boredom decided to have a go at fixing them instead of spending lots of money on replacements.

A forum goer donated me some spare broken bits of his + a windscreen for $20 which has gotten me on the right track

Started with this:


With a bit of elbow grease and magic she now looks like this:




I have started on the LHS as well, its very tricky cause of the bit that was missing but its coming along nicely I think.


They aren't going to be 100% perfect, but you probably would notice unless you looked at the backside of them once they are all finished. What do yas reckon?

I did all the repair work on my ZX7 after I crashed too.
You look to be coming along really well, are you going to paint it yourself too? Are you using Plastex?

Nah no plastex, i didnt even know there was a plastic specific bodyfiller, if I did I woulda gotten some.

I'm just using regular bodyfiller, it seems to hold up okay even flexing the plastic a bit after its dried showed no problems.

It may crack eventually but by then I will have a new job and will replace the fairings.

Also yes im going to paint them myself, probably just with some spraycans seeing the dodgy jobs im doing on them It'd be a waste of money having them professionally sprayed then it cracked a few months later. My mate might be able to borrow a compressor and paint gun, and if he can get that for me, I'll paint it with some acrylic shit out of the gun.

Reason I'm doing it is I work part time at the pizza hut call centre on like $10 an hour It was my uni "on the side" job and now that i've graduated I should be able to get myself a much nicer paying job. So i have SFA money at the mo.

Nice work Chickin, you shouldn't hvae too many dramas with the bog if you mixed it right, might be worth a bit of effort in the paint dept.

Bog definately will crack in ABS plastic, but you know that already.
If you can spare the extra couple of dollars and kinda know what youre doing use a 2pac clear over your acrylic base, it should come up quite nicely and shouldnt chip quite as easily.
What youre doing ATM will get you outta trouble and back on the road but is definately a quick fix, maybe a chance to expirment with some cool and outlandish paint schemes?

I take it you're thinking of painting it "sauce red"?

Yeah its gonna stay red simply cause my tank is red and I have no desire to respray that, the purple ass end is changing to red though. Gonna still have purple wheels though heh, that'll look a bit odd

good work dude i love it. make sure you do the research on how to spray paint or you might fuck the good work you've already done. i fixed up my fairing like your doing. i'd strongly recommend staying away from spray cans and using the 2pac. but if you go to the hardware store you can by "marble" spray paint. comes out like silly string but looks like marble. was so close to doing that to my bike but gladly changed to metallic 2 pac. well worth it. You haven't had any troubles with cracking (providing you just used regular bodyfiller)? Also how long you had it "repaired" for?

Spray paint is do-able if you have patience and are willing to sand it all back each time you screw it up. Took me about 3-4 attempts before i got it right on the front half of my wheelguard!!!!

I would have gotten acompresor and gun if i coulda afforded it, but the $ required was just not feasable.

Looks good though mate, keep up the great repair job
