Re: GPX IS NOT HAPPY
well figured out some crap from my tank got blocked either in the jets or in the valve, so imm putting a inline filter to stop like that happening again. and now i know the coolant leak is from the thermostat. so ill have to get a new gasket and thermostat., but apart from that she is sweet, haha i had all the fairing off riding her around and damn it felt good. but yeh runnning sweet , thank god coz i have my most test in 2 weeks

Re: GPX IS NOT HAPPY
Hi Dave,
What is it with Kawasaki and not having inline fuel filters? My 87 GPZ is the same. The filters used on my Briggs & Stratton slasher is nice and compact so I'm going to use one of them.
Not sure about the GPX but mine has to be a gravity fed filter since it's a carby bike.
Cheers,
Wayne

Re: GPX IS NOT HAPPY
Just to be a bit picky, that's not so. Even my '84 Honda VF500F came out with an electric fuel pump, so just because it's got carbies means nothing. All EFI bikes need pumps because the fuel is pressurised, but it's not the only reason for a pump. If the fuel tank outlet is physically lower than the inlet to the carbies (lots of bikes), a pump is required to use the capacity below the level of the inlet. Yours is higher, therefore doesn't need a pump.waynemorgan wrote:... mine has to be a gravity fed filter since it's a carby bike.

Re: GPX IS NOT HAPPY
Hi Rusty,
Yeah - my mistake. I should have said something along the lines of bikes without a fuel pump ie gravity or vacuum fed.
Dave - "almost bought a new bike" - what were you looking at?
Cheers,
Wayne

Theres often filters in the fuel pickup, but they often degrade with age or aren't fine enough to be able to thoroughly pick up all the shit that can get through.... Or they just fall out and rattle about the tank so you don't actually have a "reserve" anymore (had that one happen to a friend of mine, he seemed to not enjoy it!)

yeah i have since placed an inline filter between the tap and carbs and seems to be running fine apart from the fact its on back to front coz the size and angles it is on, {just means ill have to replace it more often}.

Re: GPX IS NOT HAPPY
once again, the punk has chucked a fit on me and didnt want to start, Bloody bitch of a thing did at work this time, could have been the fact she was sitting in the rain all day,, maybe some water got into the fuel again, I dont know but i think ill drain and clean the tank this weekend and see about the carbs Mmmm!!!
.
Apart from that ill have to clean the spark plugs and might drain the oil and replace it. Change the sprocket and chain coz im sick of the old ones.
Damn cant go to the eastern creek ride day to see eveyone, but has to be done. Grrrrr

Ahhh yes, the dreaded rain. My beauty is sitting in the garage on her rubber mats under her nice warm cover. No rain for that little one.
More to the point, the rider is a wuss and doesn't want to get wet. hehehehe
Hope you get it all fixed...

Re: GPX IS NOT HAPPY
hi
do you always goto the same petrol station??
as i found mainly th BP servos if i fill up there i get heaps of problems ive had to drain my tank every time i goto a BP as it has water in it which then makes the bike run like shit or not at all if it gets to sit as the water and fuel seperate and being gravity fed it sucks the water through first..

I don't know what BP servo you're using, but for me for my bike and all my previous cars BP has the best fuel.

Re: GPX IS NOT HAPPY
Well, I can say I would never use BP, had to many problems with them, and yes I didnt use a different servo {shell} and then the problem, but I pulled 2-3 litres of water out so it could have been a combination between the rain and servo, mind you never going back to them.
Going to get a bike cover for the punk today, due to the fact that she is exposed all day at work, but when i get home she is under cover away ffrom the weather.
But yeah alot of water and crap in the tank, the right hand carbie bowl was blocked, and had to replace the inline filter.
While i was there ripped the back tyre off and changed the sprockets and chain, need to replace my rear brake{dont use it anyways} so that next.
