I just need to tell you that this is a very lovely bike you have gotten here and I am interested in buying it outrightly. For a quick sale, I will pay you 7000.00aud for the bike. I was planning going on physically to purchase the bike but could not due to the nature of my work as i am always on the move cos I am marine engineer and I work with an International shipping company.the bike will be picked up at your location by my pick up agent I will be paying with my paypal account.so please do reply me asap with your paypal account or send me a payment request from your paypal account so i can effect payment to you rightaway.
I await your reply
NB:Honestly, I do not know the actual worth of this item because I?m always busy sailing. If my offer is not ok, Let me know so i can shoot up abit or bring it down as the case maybe.
Hope to hear from you soon.

Scam or not? I've replied telling him that I'm happy to accept his offer, but I have no paypal account and that I'm happy to accept a bank deposit and will provide details for him and upon clearance of the funds, we'll organise the pickup. I've also asked him for his full name and address for the transfer papers......

How good would that be, considering he's offering $1100 over my asking price! Mal did some investigating and found paypal scams going on where a paypal transaction happens and the buyer then feigns some excuse and has his money refunded by paypal and the seller ends up with no goods and no money either. I'm interested to hear his response to my email, if he replies at all.

What do you think? :?

Sounds like your common scams, but hey, if they come pick up the bike and give you 7 smackers, who cares!
I just wouldnt be releasing the bike until you had the cash in your hand.

Don't give them your bank details at all. Even if they do deposit the money to you and the bank fins out later it is a stolen account, they will reverse the transaction.

Also what could happen is they will send you more money and then ask the excess to be sent to the so called "shipping agent".

I had an email almost the same as this one when I was trying to sell my bike. The first thing I noticed was that the phone number was missing a digit. I sent them an email and asked if they could resend their phone number so I could ring them. Didn't take long to confirm it was a scam as their replies were worse than their original email!

Lead them on a bit and make them think you're going to sell it to them. It's always worthwhile wasting their time IMHO.

I agree Jase, not to mention that this might amuse me for a while. I've already reported it to bikesales and to paypal. I received this response this morning (at 3 am - cause he's so busy, nothing to do with him being in Nigeria):
**************************************************
Karen,

it was nice of you replying my mails so quickly...thanks so much...i will appreciate if you can send your own informations to me instead of asking after mine because presently am at work of the coast of brisbane,i sail there now,am a marine engineer and a very busy one indeed,so all required documents will be signed by my pick up company on my behalf...all what you need to know will be done by my pick up company...all i just need from you is just for you to send me the payment request from paypal so i can pay you...once the money is inside your account you wont find it difficult of tranasacting with my pick up company, also i will need to pay my pick up company but lets just be through with paying you first then i will contact them,as i already said you will need to send me payment request from your paypal account,if you dont have one can you set up...i can only access my paypal account here...thats why i prefer them, they are also very reliable and fast...please get back to me asap with all the infos i have asked from you for us to proceed...thanks Neill

Wow, that reply is fantastic. Well, I'm sure it would be if I could make ANY sense of it! :)

I'd be highly impressed if you could get some money out of them. Maybe see if they'll send you a $100 deposit.
