Re: Is This Too Harsh ??
Aaah Gos you crack me up......
Me, generally jut look at the whereis / googlemaps etc before I depart print out the tricky last few hundred meters in the off main road area.... Although in the car, having moved to sydney, the Navman is awesome...... sure I could stuff about with a map etc, but hey, I like the convenience of the navman..... doesn't mean i follow it religiously but it is great to not have to worry about a map in the chaos of Sydney traffic!
Although, If I am on the bike in sydney, i just navigate to somewhere close to where i want to be, pull over if i can't remember where to go, and because I normally forget the printed copy, or just try and remember it..... pull out the Nokia N95 and use the maps on that, rarely ever use the GPS on it, as I am too impatient to wait the decade that it requires to get a lock!
Oh and the Navman gave my wife that bit of extra confidence to drive on unfamiliar roads, as she can't read a map to save her life....... let alone on the fly navigation in the car..... way too nervous a driver for that!

I agree with you entirely you grumpy old fart Gos!
With my sense of direction (or lack thereof) the last thing I need is a piece of equipment that tells me I am in the middle of the Pacific Ocean when I am actually on a main road in Brisbane!

...but drivers stare at the TomTom and not the road! I know from experience that I don't appear on their GPS...

nah Gos, you're spot on.
If I'm not sure where Ive gotta go, I look it up the night before. I'm not sure some of these Gen Yers even know what a street directory is
The Honda rider does approx 70 thousand Ks a year all over NSW, without sat nav. Mind you, his tight arse company won't cough up for a wireless for the laptop either

You auditioning for the next series of "Grumpy Old Men" ? Seriously, as a "baby boomer" I prefer hard copy ie a map - but the Nokia N95 with maps is great, especially at night on a dark back street - its backlit and you can re-plot your route as you go. Oh, and HTFU you old carnt !
