TV COVERAGE OF RACE DAY

Post by HELLRIDEZ »

GDAY Greenz,
It was my first year infront of the tv since 03, and I cant get over only seeing westy and chris for more than a few seconds into the first corner or two!I do appreciate the fine ride by stoner and the cool moves by rossi to come from the back BUT, surely at a home GP we deserve to see a little of whats going on with our other hopefuls even when they are not having the best day at the office.
10 didnt mind doing pre race interviews with westy and aired them in prime time but failed to show bugger all when it counted!
Now I know the kwaka has had its on track issues that have held westy at the dud end of the field, but inevitably I feel this was probably westy's last home moto GP and even if they had of showed a couple of wild slides, (I'm sure he had a few.GO THE KWAkA),I wouldnt be writing this.
Anyway,I guess its my fault for not being there to see it all for myself! I still think 10 sux and its not the first time they have sucked!
WHEN HELL FREEZES OVER, I'LL RIDE THERE TOO!!!!

I watched the race with a camera man from Ten, and we all kept telling him to call someone and make some noise. Coverage was crap, 4 laps, ad break miss 3 laps... and please can we have proper commentators, ITV do it best. I like how they do it with the F1, bit of ours then back to the real boys. Daylight saving up here in QLD, also ment the race was finished before we got to see it.

All round pathetic coverage if you ask me.

Nail on head for all your comments, it really is pathetic that we only see a fraction of the action with all the technology & the promise at the beginning of the ten coverage that it would be uninterrupted  I quickly switched over to fox but did not want to listen to the pommy commentary :?

Also, did any notice the complete lack of telemtry? Where was lean angle, revs, speeds, gears etc... Also they kept giving splits but not lap times, or was that just me? I love all that stuff, graphics and the like.

Stupid thing was, we have subscription to the online coverage but wanted to watch it on Ten HD since the picture quality was better, NOT making that mistake again. It reminded me of Sevens coverage of the Olympics, piss poor. I cant wait until Nine has a crack, they are ment to be the 'sports' channel, wonder what they can do with it.

Agree that the coverage on 10 was garbage. Not so long ago the coverage was fantastic but not anymore. I also watched in QLD so wasn't live which is pretty ordinary to say the least.

I can't complain too much about the lack of coverage for Westy and Chris V. Nothing used to piss me off more when we would get the obligatory coverage of the local no hoper in years gone by at the tail of the field. The directors always managed to show them just at the precise moment something important happened at the front - where the interest for 99.9999% of viewers was.

Agree 100% ! The coverage on Channel 10 was fully piss-poor, missing 3 laps for every ad break !! What a fuckin' joke.
So at each ad break, switch over to Fox (which had a noticeably poorer quality picture), and put up with those pommie twats for a couple of laps........then back to 10 for a clear picture.

It was quite possibly the worst coverage I have seen of a local GP. Just shithouse. Both commentators missed falls behind the front runners, which were obvious to all and sundry - they had, as mentioned, zero coverage of Westy, and I would have liked some updates on Chris V's chase through the pack.....but what do we get ? Jack Shit.

Whilst Ten supply a large number of cameramen for the Aussie round of the GP, ultimatley, what you see on the box is controlled by Dorna and I'm pretty sure you'll find that the huge European audience don't want to see a couple of Australian riders on second rate bikes.

Can understand not having enough local talent etc but dropping out for and add break only to come back to a race (125 , 250 or big bangers ) and wonder what the hell was going on , having switched positions they were folowing . Frustrating
I can understand 10 wanting to get their ad dollars , but fuck me , what on earth were some of the adds  Fashion boots for chicks with big calves ( I kid you not)  and grey hair dye for blokes . FFS . Adds for TAC and Honda mini bikes have a bit more relevance but couldnt they work them in around highlights between races ?
Ummmm let me see

All above is relevant but if you want to see it live and uninterupted then you have to pay, otherwise shut up and watch advertisements by those that have payed to bring it into your home. Capitalism and all.
A couple of things I noticed over the weekend telecast wise were;
1. The TAC ads adnauseum telling riders to wear leathers followed by ads by Hornee jeans. We al know that kevlar jeans are superior to Levis but the man in the street must have seen this as a bit of hypocrisy given that the riders shown were stunting and also wearing nothing more than the advertisers jeans and a T shirt . "Lucky you were wearing those Hornee jeans!" nevermind the lack of upper body protection beside the fact that not 30 seconds previously a surgeon is telling the general population that riders that dont suit up are dickheads.
2. Surely for the $50 "safety levy" paid by all Vic riders the TAC could have created some new saftey angle opposed to that which they trundled out last year. Can of spray paint in the van at the moment and I feel like adding to the billboard asking " Whats between you and the operating theatre?". Hows about - experience, ability, rider training, top shelf protective gear and common sense.

As a side note. Coming home from work last night on the nearby freeway I did piss myself at one of these billboards. The TAC have had a trailer based, solar powered billboard parked on the Calder for several years and of course at the moment they have one of the aforementioned "Whats between you and the operating theatre" ads. Now this trailer is parked between the north and southbound lanes on a strip of grass dividing them by some 50 to 60 metres. Fuck knows how but when I went past it last night there was a Hilux ute burried deep underneath it smack bang in the centre of the billboard. Needless to say the trailer and billboard were complete rubble. The driver was standing about scratching his head so I didn't feel too bad when I came up with the answer to the question ------ "A fucking big trailer sponsored by the TAC!" Should have stopped to get pics.....the rubble has been taken away today :D
I got a sweater for my birthday. I realy wanted a moaner or a screamer.
