Fooken!

Post by Ratmick »

Due to a combination of weather, work, family commitments and a very mild case of arthritis in the right hand AC joint in my shoulder I haven't ridden since May.

Checked the oil and tyres yesterday, with the view of getting out now the weather is on the improve. As I'm getting a bit toey (for a ride) went out this morning in a last-minute decision to start the Hornet up and ride into work. Alas she won't go, and I flattened what was left in the battery in attempting to do so. SOAFB .

Maybe in hindsight a trickle charge wouldn't have hurt, but it was extremely disappointing and now I'm working from home with the battery charging on the workbench in the shed.

All going now! Charged it for a couple of hours, managed to get it to start and stay going after a bit of a struggle.

Now I smell like exhaust fumes I might head out for an early lunch :)

Got the bike out for about an hour or so, so she is forgiven now 8) .

Popped into Autopro in Kyneton and bought a trickle-charger, the battery end of which I will hook up permanently inside the battery box this afternoon.

Weather's great, a bit blowy up here, but not too bad. It was good to get out again.

Managed to get the wiring harness inside the battery box with the battery and left the connector cable-tied to the wiring loom under the seat.

Whoever designed the battery box must have not thought that people would like to charge their bike's battery without pulling the damn thing out, the positive connector was down the far end of a tight-fitting container. Installing the battery was like one of those kids' toys where you have different shapes that have to fit inside different holes.

The charger is quite a good unit, trickle charges at just under one amp and switches itself off when the battery is charged.
