Z1000 and tyres

Post by ventura01 »

Hey all,
Im looking at getting a rear tyre soonish, and as the front is 300km old Im either looking at a BT020 rear or getting a set (of stickier tyres) and flinging the new front down the back of the shed. Ive been reading in some older bike mags (PB and Fast Bikes) that they experienced stability issues with anything but what Kawasaki sold the bike with (BT019 ?) yet I see guys with Pilots, super corses etc. So what are you all using? I wouldnt mind Michelin 2CTs or BT016s as they have the harder middle and softer edges.
Thanks,
Ventura01

Oh I also forgot to ask, Ive got a 44 tooth sprocket on the back (the original 42 in a cardboard box). Only 2 teeth more but id expect the first owner wanted more take off? (im not sure if the front sprocket has been changed tho)
How is that going to effect the speedo?

Find a tyre that you think will suite your riding style, I've used powers didn't like them I like the Bridgestone 002 streets, but I don't get good kms out of them though, I trying a set of 016s at the moment, so far they aren't too bad.
Hoping to get more than 4000 Kms out of them, but I mainly do 2 up riding.

I use the M3s on the 9 as well and can do a track day and 5k quality road riding on a set, they are a great all rounder that also work extremely well in cold and wet conditions or a long trip to PI, but also provide the grip when you're pushing it pretty hard on Sunday morning, basically all round confidence. 8)
A lot of the nasho boys use them on the 9 and also the mighty zrx1200R. On the track I had to drop the temperatures to about 30-32 to stop them sliding around like buggery  but they still provided a lot of grip to give it a farily big go and get you're knee down most corners ;) .

I told the wife I would be home after 8..... (I meant 8 Pints)

I had m3's on mine too, after this thread I don't think you could go wrong. Overall construction is better than pp's.
