Sproket set for ZZR 250

Post by MrWasabi »

Hi guys,
Im wanting to increase the acceleration of the old dog, so im thinking of sacrificing its gargantuan top speed of 150km/h at the rev limiter on 6th...
Today i almost got killed by some idiot in a commodore at the lights. It seems i didn't take off fast enough for his liking, despite the fact that i was at least 10 cars in front of traffic by the time i was doing the speed limit... anyway...

Anyone have any idea where i can pick up a set of sprockets that will fit on my bike?

Im not wanting this just to stay ahead of morons like that, ive always wondered if the accel could be increased on these things...

I would be concerned about shortening the gearing to much if you do a bit of freeway riding.

only freeway riding i do is up to berowra and the casual putty run...
sits at 9k rmp at the moment when im on 110km/h...
i guess it would take it up to about 10...11...is that just suicide?

Owen ur bike isnt the only one revving high going 110...mine sits on 8.5 - 9k RPM as well on 5th...i dont use 6th because it slows down for some reason :?

I dont think you would be stressing it that much if thats all your doing on the freeway and it is a pretty stong donk, however do understand it was not intended to be reving that high so it all equals wear and tear on the motor.

As for prolonged periods of just having it pinned you might wanna ask the local expert..........enter the other owen

go 1 or two teeth up on the rear i reckon... as you say u dont do that much freeway but more commuting and twisites... lower gearing here shouldnt be too bad.... im sure it will feel weird at first cos u intuitively will know roughly what speed your doing at a given rpm in a given gear.... maybe :P

go for it i say... do u know what sporcket u have on the rear??

and as far as wear and tear on the engine russ is right, but i reckon the overall difference wouldnt be too much...

i am actually thinking about getting a smaller rear sprocket to fit on trips to improve the highway touring  and i figure once i get a ventura rack ill have a sports tourer...
