Arriving soon

Post by John »

Hi all, Im moving over to QLD soon from Scotland and im not sure if i should bring my 1988 gpx750r with me or buy a bike once i arrive. Any advice on costs of bikes would be a help. If i sell mine and get a bike in Aus it will be a zzr1100. Anyone want any spare parts if you cant get what you want in Aus? My gpx is worth £900.00 (about $1900.). Cheers, John.

G'day John! Have they warned you about the people in Queensland yet? .... you thought the Scotts' were mad :D.

It is possible to import your bike to Australia as a personal import, but you will have to jump through hoops and pay a fair amount of money to the gumbeyment to do so. Unless your bike holds a really special place in your heart I'd let it go and replace it when you get here.

Good luck with the move.

Even if you jump through all the hoops to import & register your bike, you will have difficulty getting insurance for it.

Strongly recommend you sell it and buy into something when you get here.

Hi John

Market value on your bike over here is around $2,400 - $2,900 so I guess you have to work out if it's worth it by the time you pay the taxes etc.

Personally, I say bring it over. The more us on 88 GPX750R's the better.

Maybe I'm biased, but I say offload your bike and grab a ZZR when you get here. :D

Hi,
Thanks for the replies, Ive a lot to think about, to add to the problem ive just wrote a reply twice and ended up hitting the wrong button and loosing the message.
Anyway, it will be a shame to have to sell my bike, it is in very good condition and without a mark on it. Im going down to the Australian high commission next week so i will be asking about the tax.
Its starting to look like i might be on the look out for a ZZR1100 when i arrive, 1995 - 1999 model.
Thanks again for the info, I will let you know how it goes next week.
Cheers,
John.

Whoo-hoo! You picked the best place in the country to live. If you are living around the Brisbane area and would like a tour of some nice roads let me know.

...welcome to here (our madhouse)
and soon Oz :D

I would bring the Gpx if the guvmint ain't gunna rape ya bank account to bring it here
If its not too expensive I would... coz you know the bike & how its been treated and serviced

any new secondhand bike is always a bit of a gamble unless you know how its been treated
...which is a tad difficult from Scotland (you from Glasgow or Edinburgh or else where?)

We have a few members who luv the GPx..sp plenty of support here for these ol' girls
(nothing much wrong with ZZR1100s either)

hth

cheers

I wonder if you "listed" the bike as just a box of parts if that would make any difference?
You know under the $1000 limit and as second hand parts... Might mean taking a few bits off, packing it up all in bubble wrap and nicely boxed then send it to yourself over here, dunno just an idea :)

Hi all,
Thanks Jonno for the idea, i will think on that one. I am looking at moving to the Sippy Downs area. We are off down to the high commission on Tuesday, will find out what they say then.
We live in Aberdeenshire, go to google then maps, put in 'AB31 4SB' should show our place, the house of. You will have to zoom out though.
Cheers,
John

Mate, you gonna have to speak Aussie over here not Scottish English!! Nae is not a word! you would have to say something like 'they know jack'
or sweet FA ( F#$K all ) or similar. good luck with that idea though, I must say having lived in both areas of the world, sell the bike bring the cash and
buy another.
