Re: wet weather jacket
I used to think that I had to spend good money on wet weather gear to stay try. Turns out you don't have to.
After racking up thousands of kilometers riding in the rain - sometimes fo 8+ hours a day in the absolute pissing rain, I can safely say that there are options that will keep you try.
Work supplies us with our leathers and our "fisherman style" wet weather gear. You know the stuff, looks kind of like this:
The leathers go underneath and the XL PVC wet weather jacket and pants go over the top. If it's a really cold day AND raining I'll wear: thermals, shirt, polar fleece jumper, leather jacket then the PVC gear. Keeps me warm and dry. If I fall off, I'm not too concerned about the lack of protection from the PVC stuff because I have my leathers on underneath.
The jackets we are supplied have neoprene inserts in the ends of the sleeve, to soak up and rain that might get through, and a velcro fastener to fasten the sleeve around the outside of the glove and the wrist. The pants have the same velcro strap at the bottom of the leg to tighten them around your boots.
No other jacket I've owned has worked as well.

Used the same gear years ago - always leaked in the crotch - add Silastic - good for another 2-3 months !!

Re: wet weather jacket
used to sail off shore competiveley (system 7 ,then gortex)and fish professionally in W.A ( various welded pvc formats) years ago and actually never found any gear that was totally water proof!!...and yes glued and heat sealed pvc is great...but still leaks..my rivet trousers do a fantastic job
inexpensive and if a bit short sitting on bike ie: bent knees boot top exposed oh shit wet feet. the old victory jacket had honestly passed its used by date...i do prefer to ride to commute but it can be an option...so hopefully this jacket will keep me drier than the poor cast aside.. and yes it did cost a few more dollars than i intended but fuck me if i'd bought a "d " jacket you tell me at your disscounted prices

Re: wet weather jacket
I paid a $100 for a Motodry all in one wet weather set and I can honestly say that it is probably the best $100 I've ever spent on bike gear. Never leaks (and I've ridden in it for hours of rain) and cuts out the wind. Bit sweaty in summer but not as bad as I expected.
