Buying advice on GPX250

Post by jimisgek »

I'm looking to buy a used GPX 250.
I'm not sure what to offer on a 1998 model. It's listed with the dealer at $3990.
I had a look and it's not in great condition, paint work etc. It's also got 68000k on the clock.
Is $2000 too low?
I really just want a very cheap bike to learn on and tinker with ( ie maintenance wise).
I'm going overseas at the end of the year so will sell on then.
Maybe I should spend a little more on the 05 models?
See link below:

These are the 05 models on offer:

I'd be grateful for any help or advice.

Thanks

Hi there Jimi, if you have not bought a bike yet, there are some good guides on netrider.com.au. Have a look at the below link:

http://www.netrider.net.au/searchresult ... a=Search#0

I paid $3800 for my 2001 250 GPX with 4800km on the clock. Runs fine. I had all the fluids replaced in the 1st week of ownership as well as a new Yuasa battery and plugs installed. Tyres and brakes were fine and by accounts from the mechanic the bike is in good confition.

So far no issues. Pretty economical and fun to ride. I am still on my L's so no thrashing. Mainly riding to work and now starts fine on these cold Sydney mornings.

Regards

Pinorkal.

Netrider  I am with Dave

I think that offering half for what he is asking is an insult but thats just me. I sold mine for $3,900 and it was in good condition. Perhapss if its not in your price range look around more till u find one that is

I don't agree at all mate, and I've owned a few and done more than my share of km's on them. What problems have you experienced with the GPX carbies?

sounds way high for a bike with that mileage on it.... id say $2000 - $2300 is on the money

i know its a different bike, but still in the learner category, but i let my 99 cb250 go for 2250... it wasnt in the greatest condition either.... fork seals needed doing, small hole in seat, small dent in tank... and some rust on the header pipes.... only had about 45k on the odo i think... but for a learner bike that will just keep on keeping on, it was fine... i had just just done sydney-victoria and back earlier in the year... i personally think the girl who bought it was pleased and i know i was giving them a pretty good price...

you'd be mad to pay 4k for a GPX with 68k on the clock...

there will be other better GPX's out there with less kays for similar price...
