Thank God for crash's

Post by Black Magic »

They tell me you don't own your bike until you drop it.

7 months in and the Gixxer bit the dust today.

I have been sick for about 6 weeks now and haven't been on her much. Consequently, not much eating or sleeping going on at my place at the moment. Even though I knew I wasn't feeling good I was really hanging out for a ride so I took off early this morning for a spin.
Went to pull out of a carpark, put my foot down and slipped in some gravel. (Actually it was ONE piece of gravel under my boot! ) I held onto the bike for the longest time but realised that I wasn't going to be able to save her and down she went gently.
The crash saved everything. All I have to show for it is a scratch on the exhaust! (And the sore back, legs and arms you get when a 55kg person tries to lift 160kgs of bike on their own!)
As far as bingles with the bitumen go it was as good as they get. As far as embarassing moments go it was 10/10

That's bad news, BM - lost mine in the driveway awhile back. Same thing except the RHS footpeg snapped ($96! ). Factory oggies saved the bodywork though.
I've spent over 40 years of my life riding bikes .... the rest of it, I wasted ..

I own mine three times over then...

Sorry to hear of your drop, BM. Hanging out for it, or not, if I know my mind or body isn't up for a ride, I take the car.

Hope you feel better soon. :D

Ohhhhh shattered Wendy, sorry to hear.
Like Cookeetree, I'd own mine twice over - and yeh I can relate to the embarrasment factor - it Sux!
In regard to crash's . . . . yeh I wish they fitted to my bike (just for a bit of peace of mind tbh), but I'd have to cut the fairing to fit em - and well, I'm not gonna do that.
At least you got out of it with minimal damage and you are OK. ;) ;) :D

Lol.

Thanks everyone- I am feeling it today I can tell you, feel like I've been hit by a Mack truck!

I keep going out to the garage looking AGAIN to make sure there is no damage that I didn't find at first. Absolutely amazing!

You know that horrible scraping sound you hear when the bike hits the road? I was sure the fairing was wrecked- but not a mark! Just one scuffed crash and a little scratch on the pipe!

Praise be to my ugly little plastic stoppers!

Im so hearing your pain right now. I have done the same thing on an old ZXR750, and trying to hold the thing when you know its gone , hurts bad,
Even though the damage is minor. Thank God it was at a stand still.

See BM, there's the problem, all these buggers trying to confuse you, no wonder you fell over. Rubber side stays DOWN, SHINY side stays UP ;)

Thats some bad luck there BM. At least now you can join the "ive dropped my bike club" :D

ive dropped my bike a few times, first time i was riding round in circles in my back yard on the grass... It wasnt registered then so i wanted to ride it... gave it a bit too much throttle and she went from underneath me. Cracked the top fairing doing that.
Then there was a time when i was trying to get it on its center stand. I think i grabbed it wrong and there i was standing pretending to hold a bike while she was laying on the ground.

Thankfully the ZZR had so many scratches from the previous owner that it really didnt matter, and i couldnt see what new damage was caused :D
