There was some discussion about it being repairable, and depending upon how and where yours is damaged you might be able to make something from the two of them.TlTAN wrote:would this fractured casting issue make the crankcase completely unusable? I only ask cos we already have a completely unusable crankcasea problem with a fractured casting brought it undone. It's the engine mentioned in this thread. If you want it let me know - the price will be right

Re: 98 zx6r splitting the crankcase
the crank cases are machined as a pair when they are manufactured, you aren't supposed to use different upper and lower halves from non-matching sets afaik
its the upper half thats busted for interests sake
I opened up the sump and found the bolts and removed em, still didn't want to play ball. I gave up pretty easy cause I cleaned up and moved the engine which is in a bad spot for trying to really get at it.
Even though the engine is effectively boned I still wanna have a go it getting it open as its more knowledge to add to my very small bag of it. Will have another go at splitting the cases next week probably.

As I am only taking gear train from this complete engine ....... when I can get the farkin bolts undone, you may want to PM Dan ( Icebreaker) to see if he will let you have the rest at the right price ?
I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it.
Re: 98 zx6r splitting the crankcase
Have you cracked it open yet Rossi? I have a perfectly good transmission already out - maybe we could sort something out? I broke the crancase and need a replacement but if you have a perfectly good engine intact that would make things a little easier. As I am only taking gear train from this complete engine ....... when I can get the farkin bolts undone, you may want to PM Dan ( Icebreaker) to see if he will let you have the rest at the right price ?
Is it in good order? I'm guessing not or you would have just dropped the entire engine into Icebreakers bike.
