Turbo Z1k Project - Opinions?

Post by deafwish »

Hi all,
I am seriously contemplating doing a semi DIY turbo kit for my 2004 model Z1000.
As I am heavily involved in modifying turbo Subarus, I can get my hands on tonnes of performance bits & custom parts relatively cheaply...
I'm looking for some advice on what used turbos to look for and any other little things I may not have thought about.
As my bike is more of a street bike (muscle-ish bike), it already runs lower compression compared to the supersport roadbikes (CBR1000, R1, GSXR1000's...). I don't want to intercool, to simply keep it... simple!
I would be looking for something that has an internal wastegate spring pressure around 7psi.
I already have a computer (PC3 USB) and a Muzzy exhaust (would sell the headers).
I would need to get an external fuel pump (what type?), custom header, small dump pipe a small BOV, oil feed lines (info required), bigger injectors (info required) & a custom intake plenum (the expensive bit - info reqd).

Any advice or help would be wonderful!

Cheers.

Daz.

look at something like a GT25 or GT28 ball job, it will still ride like a N/A motor down low but will pull hard higher in the RPM range. I havent gotten too far into this yet but will be helping my brither with a turbo "77 Z1000 soon.

Hi Issues,
Are the GT25/28's a Garrett core?
Could one possibly use a Daihatsu Charade or WRX turbo, with some slight modification?

Daihatsu Charade is a common upgrade for the factory GPZ 750 turbo, I'm not sure on spec of the 2 turbo's you have mentioned but I know some people running modded GT28's on busa's.

Yes the GT series is Garret. I don't know much about what turbine and compressor they use on them either. Give it a go and see what happens.

I prefer Bearing turbos for better response, they are a little more expensive but do porform better unless drag racing.

Try here maybe http://750turbo.com/ I havent been there but my brother has and has had some good tech help, he has a 750 turbo also.
