I am wondering if anyone on the forum would know what is causing my 10 to idle way too high.It is more like half throttle revs.
I purchased and installed a Timing Retard Eliminator from Rated R parts today.I did everything that I was instructed to do disconnecting two wires and connecting them to the T.R.E unit.
After it was all fitted I started the bike and the revs are way way too high.So high that I can only run it for a second.
So I disconnected theT.R.E and replaced the two wires back into the plug that they came out of.But the bike is still reving too high.I don't know what cold be causing the problem, but I am off the road until I do.
Has anyone got any ideas what to do next?
Cheers
Peter.

There is a throttle adjustment thingy you can reach and adjust down next to the motor, kind of above the gearshift lever. Perhaps in your fitting of things a cable has been moved/stretched, check the plugs on your ECU to see if anything has come loose?

i was working my my bomb of a car yesterday and gave the accel a flick from under the bonnet, (trying to set idle) and the cable flipped off, and started revving its tits off

like 5000 revs

quickly ran round and turned it off.

Sounds like you have definitely done something to the idle to make it go up that high.. because when you install the TRE, it actually drops the idle a bit, and you have to wind it up to around 1000 - 1100 rpm.... I have installed 2 TRE's on my road bike and track bike (both ZX10's) and they both worked perfectly.. and as predicted, the idle dropped and became a bit lumpy after the install... You have to slowly wind the idle adjustment screw (you can see it on the left hand side just above the front sprocket cover).. and when the bike is warmed up completely.. set it at around 1100... the track bike is set a little higher, but still works the same... check that out.. or your throttle itself, cables etc.. so nothing is catching..

Re: 06 ZX10 Idleing way too high.
Thanks for the ideas everyone.
It is good to hear from you Macca I was going to call you to see if you had any thoughts on my Idle problem.
I have been out in the garage for around 4 hours and have found the fault and fixed it.
I was a bit stressed that the T.R.E unit had stuffed my electronic box.But the problem was that I must have put pressure on the air cleaner box. This caused the box to dislodge from the rubber clamps that attaches it to the carbies.
The bike was sucking too much air and because it dislodged towards the rear of the carbies,it probably caused the main throttle cam and throttle cable to engage a bit.
I guess it is a learning curve as I am still getting to know the bike after having it for a couple of months.
So all is well the idle is running at 1,100 rpm and I am back on the road.
Cheers
