My biggest problem

Post by lilyofthevalley »

with riding, learning etc

is knowing how far you lean, how fast you can go (not wanting to be a speed demon but not wanting to do everything at 20kph) and all that jazz, when going around/into corners etc.

can anyone give some advice?

anyone willing to teach me? lol

a good thing to do is find a group of experienced riders and ride with them.. where abouts are you located?

Just hook up with some KSRCians in your area and go riding with them...

As long as you're not in Victoria or Queensland, you'll be right!

It will all come with time, Lily. The more time you spend on the bike, the more your confidence will grow and you'll start to push your bike further and further. Before you know it, you'll be scraping your Geep's pegs.

One think you can stop worrying about right now is how far you're leaning... it'll take you a fair while to be anywhere near your bike's capabilities.

Just get in the habit of moving a bit off to the side, that will mean you can turn just as sharp, with less lean, so then you'll have even more of a safety buffer.

Most important thing is confidence, the more you clam up the siffer you'll be and the wider you'll run :)

I have just sold my track bike but i will be road bike riding again very soon so I will give you a shout if I organise a ride. As the others said, just go at your own pace until you get your confidence up and then it all comes easy.

it's easily capable of scraping the pegs.

Just let the tyres warm up (5 minutes of riding) and be smooth with the braking and the throttle and you'll be right.

All you need to do is just keep on riding. I felt the same when i jumped on my ZX10, i was a bit uncertain and was thinking i wont ever get used to it, now i am starting to re-master the tekteker style wheelstand! (well not quite) but just keep on riding, perhaps one day if your bored, just go out for a ride around some quiet twisty roads, u dont need to go at a blasting pace, just move at a nice steady pace and see how smooth you can roll through the corners! You will eventually get faster and faster the more you do it!

It helps if your alert and awake also! Sometimes a can of red bull can really Gee you up and give you a bit of edge!

Hey Lily

Im in the same boat. On L's and finding the limits of the bike. Its a slow process but what has helped was a track day, Still didn't manage to scrape the pegs but with a bit more riding and maybe another track day it could happen! Anyway its all about fun so just enjoy riding and build up those skills slowly!

it all takes time mate and how confortable. remeber it's not how far you lean but the way in which you do it. just remember that the lean angle needs to offset with balance and outward force.

if you are not already riding it everyday, you won't learn much at all.

Ride it every day - 3 or 4 times if you can. Ride it to the shops. Ride it to your parents place. Get on it and ride it everywhere, as often as possible. This is the *only* way you will learn what your bike is capable of, at least without formal rider training.

The more you ride, the more confident you will get, and the more 'knowledge' you will build up about things like - how far you can lean it, how quick it can go around corners etc etc. None of this comes without spending hundreds of hours in the saddle. Every day, every week - ride it *somewhere* !!!

C'mon you guys ........nip round and help out a complete newby ;)
Show them the effects of countersteering when cornering etc.etc.

If it falls over while your leaning it then you ain't going fast enough........if it don't go round the corner, even though you are leaning it then you is going too fast :D
Try and aim for somewhere in between the above and you will be fine :D

End of lesson 1
