Exhaust Wrap..

Post by MadKaw »

My boot was melting onto the link pipe near the muffler on Saturday so I'm after a small amount of Exhaust header wrap.
Anyone have any or know were I can get a bit.?

Car race shops or some good and larger auto pro style stores have it.

I have a mat with some new fangle thermal coating which is sprayed on. Apparently used for industrial applications to cover the likes of steam pipes, where once painted, you can touch it with your fingers!!! I'll ask him if it can be used and how much a little might be to try?

Another option is to fashion a mini heat shield out of thin stainless or ally. A little time and thought (hint-use a card template) you can make a trick looking heatshield and secure with stainless hose clamps via stepped securing lugs.(Used to make them for after market header pipes on dirt squirters to stop ya right knee getting cooked!!)
Option 3 is look up FMF / Akrapovic / Pro circuit websites for ideas..

Heatwrap is fine as long as you don't get it full of oil /chain lube /degreaser etc. It doesn't like being exposed too excessive temps ie near Cat convertors for too long either. >350deg only!! If it goes up it takes your plastics with it normally!!

FYI mate..

I'd suggest you try using the footpeg to rest your foot on instead of the link pipe 8)
