I agree - but that doesn't cut the mustard with those who don't ride.
I was similar - I commuted for 5 years - around 50000k/yr, over 250,000 total.
I had 4 accidents in that time - 2 serious.
I think I well and truly beat the odds (though I did decide to give up for now).
The missus doesn't agree for some reason...

I somewhat agree with Wattie on everyone riding for a year, though I'm willing to admit it wouldn't really work - there are some people that just shouldn't be let near a bike.
