Sydney M2 Bus lane

Post by jinjaninja »

Just a quick warning to any NSW bikers who use the M2 "car park" to get in to Sydney.
The cops are having a purge on bikrers using the bus lane, got stopped this morning
Copper was decent bloke though, agreed it was ridiculous that bikes weren't allowed in the bus lane, but still had to stop me.

Got let off with a warning, but he took my rego and if caught again will be 3 points and a $230 fine, so i'll be taking my life in my hands and filtering down the middle of the traffic from now on.

Dave,

That's a bit of bad luck. It looks like the M2 is one of the roads that has the "BUS ONLY LANES" which motorbikes can't use, but we can use "BUS LANES"

Just more things to look out for while on the mad sydney roads !!

Extract from the RTA site.

Bus lanes and bus only lanes
Sydney’s first major bus lane was introduced in 1992 on the Sydney Harbour Bridge. More than 90 kilometres of bus lanes are now in place throughout the metropolitan area.

Bus lanes are specially marked lanes that can only be used by buses, taxis, emergency vehicles, motorcycles and bicycles. They are located on roads which have high frequency bus services.

Bus only lanes are a special form of bus lane restricted to buses. Examples of bus only lanes can be found on the Liverpool to Parramatta T-way route in south western Sydney and the North-West T-way that operates between Parramatta and Rouse Hill.

Sydney metropolitan bus lanes locations
Major metropolitan bus lanes include:

Parramatta Road from Leichhardt to Broadway
Warringah Freeway, North Sydney and Military Road, Neutral Bay
Oxford Street, Darlinghurst and the Moore Park Busway
The M2 Motorway - Bus Only Lane (taxis and hire cars permitted eastbound between Windsor Road and Beecroft Road)
Holker Street, Homebush Bay
Elizabeth, George and York streets, Sydney
Burnt Bridge Creek Deviation, Balgowlah and Manly Road, Balgowlah
Fairford Road from Gow Street to Stacey Street, Bankstown
Victoria Road from Weaver Street to Hepburn Avenue, Gladesville
Victoria Road from Park Street to Patricia Street, Rydalmere

Brendan, the M2 has "BUS ONLY LANES" which are different to "BUS LANES", we can use the latter but not the ones on the M2

that lane is my emergency overtake lane when i am in the cage.
Thankfully when i lived in Ryde, i had to come to Bella Vista to work, so i was going against traffic, so it was a nice cruise to work.
Every day however i meet what i classify as "A Typical M2 Driver" sits on 95 on the right hand lane and slows all traffic. If i am in a rush to work, i will use the "emergency overtake lane", but other times i will flash and honk until they get the idea...
anyway, good to know that that bit of info, i might think twice before using that lane again

Yeah, I did plead the ignorant Pom and that I thought we could use any bus lane, but I could hear the guy they stopped after me using the same excuse, bet the copper heard that a thousand times today.

Hey here's an thought, let bikes use the bus lanes, reduce the toll fee, drivers see the benefits, swap to a bike, congestion is eased, everyone's a winner.....no..... couldn't possibly work, what a stupid idea

You clearly haven't lived here long enough to realise that there is no room in NSW for people with smart ideas...what were you thinking...

havent been down that way in a while. But if you read what is marked on the floor it should clearly say BUS ONLY or BUS LANE

BUS ONLY, is exactly that. BUS LANE is free game. This is according to me since i last read the road rule book 6 months ago when i was going for my L's. so i could be wrong

Heading south, It's a bus lane once you get past the intersection just north of the Shell service station, before then it is a bus-only lane. I've used the bus lane on my bike 4-5 months ago and not heard a peep from the IPB so am presuming it's all ok.

Then again to be honest they've fecked up epping road so much with the single lane/bus lane thing that i've honestly given up and resigned to using the tunnel. It works well for me, but its a goddamned shame i have to pay the bloody toll for it :-\.
