MOST Test

Post by Makybe05 »

Dunno if i should be writing this or not but here goes anyway. Last weekend i failed my MOST test, I put my foot down in the cone weave and went over the line in the u-turn, both very simple mistakes, for someone thats been riding every day for the last 4 or more months and i've been kicking myself for all week. I just wanted to know what to do now, do i book in for another MOST test day costing me $150 or do i do just the most test? The instructor didn't really answer these questions, we finished by 12 (this was after he arrived 30 mins late) and it was supposed to be a 7-3 day. This left everyone in the group short on practice and consequently we all failed. Funny thing (but wasn't at the time)was he said he was going for a helicopter joy ride at 1.
Sorry for the rant.

Yeah i would, but i don't want to sound like a whinger even though I'm doing it now. Maybe after i do the next test, i don't want it to get in the way when i do the MOST test and its the same bloke.

I too failed my first MOST test about 7 years ago but i was able just to re sit the test part not the whole day and was like $80 or something. But as others have said contact the place you did your test at and explain the situation also contact the RTA, as you payed for a full day of practice and a test, i'm sure your instructor would complain if his heli ride was short by 3 hours cause the pilot was going for a half day learner course?
Fuck em the RTA get enough of our money that goes toward nothing...WHat does the $150 per person go towards? Does anyone know? How much is a car P's test?

You definately don't have to pay the full $150 to just do the test, i'm pretty sure it's only about $50 to do the test alone. Now that you know what is expected of you to pass i'd just go out and practice a few times before going back again for the test.
You should most certainly write a letter of complaint about the instructor finishing up so soon too!! You booked his time in advance and for him to cut that time down by 3 hours is absolute bullshit. If they give you any grief be sure to mention something about speaking with industrial relations, just the mentioning of such a thing is usually enough to get some positive action. Even better, give industrial relations a call and find out exactly where you stand ;)

You're not sounding like a whinger imho. . . and you probably wouldn't have anything to complain about if you'd been given the entire day that you had paid for; cause you would've passed ! ! ;)
Personally, I would've said something to someone on the day - big time! And if there was noone to complain to, then I would definately be on the phone or emailing someone bout it - that's just not on, that sux! :x
And I wouldn't worry bout the instructor, because it doesn't sound like he deserves his job anyway.

I presume you're in NSW. Back in the day I was one of these instructor people (still have my ticket just don't do it any more). As others have said you only need to rebook the test.

If the instructor did as you said then he should have his accreditation pulled, at least that would've happened in my day (shit I'm sounding like my old man). Don't bother writing to the RTA, you will get nowhere. If this bloke and his company really have done the wrong thing then contact the Chief Riding Instructor for NSW (he works for the RTA and i don't know who it is these days). This is the bloke who is directly responsible for all instructors in NSW even though they work for contractors ie Stay Upright, Ride it Right etc. An instructor who does that kind of shit shouldn't be in the system. Incidentally I can probably guess who the rider training mob are as well and if it's who I suspect they are the primary mob responsible for stuffing the industry and the scheme in NSW, one of the reasons being they pay their instructors absolute shit (and this is what you get)

Incidentally did you do the road ride? You are supposed to do the course, the road ride and the test although I think they are now doing the test before the road ride. If this idiot did the whole course before 12 then there is no way you have been given a fair go. I would also contact the rider training mob and let them know what has happened.

Yeah we did the road ride, that took up most of the day. We even stopped at a kebab shop so he could get some lunch then we went back and had about 45 mins lunch break, then did the test straight after finishing up at about 12 or just past. I think i might just write a letter to the company.

sfrom what i remember i rocked up at HART at 830 for a 9amm start... you then have about 45 mins of theory followed by a couple of hours of practicing the challenges for he arvo test... we did the road ride where we stopped at maccas for about a 15 minute lunch, then back to the centre and another small brake... then ride down to the test area and do the test... from what i remember we finished about 3-330...

That'll be a good thing but at best all they will do is stop giving him courses. They won't do anything about it as they can't without you going to the RTA to rebook your course or test. The RTA controls all the bookings so no training mob can retest or retrain students themselves without having a name on a sheet from the RTA. They won't do this because this will put them in the shit and will count against them when the range is up for tender next time. The CRI would want you to go direct to him, his whole mission is to make sure students are getting trained properly and that all instructors are up to scratch. All instructors know this as we are all trained by the bloke (whoever he is at the time). If you want write a letter addressed to the Chief Riding Instructor - Roads and Traffic Authority and copy it to the training mob.

Another bit of feedback. In all the years I trained I have never seen an entire class fail. It just doesn't happen if the course is done correctly. Statistically about 1 in 6 fails the MOST. You should have been given training and practise at every exercise that is in the test.

Instructors like this bloke give all instructors a bad name and most are bloody good people who do it not for the money but because they love riding bikes and giving people a good start. Unfortunately like everything there are some idiots in there.

If you want a hand with this I'm happy to help. The more I read your original post the more shitty I'm getting.

You guys have a weird way of doing it over East, in WA you have an hour lesson with your instructor following the route that he thinks will be taken and then the half hour test, but my instructor wouldn't have let me take the test if I couldn't do tight right hand turns and the emergency stop, but now I am the proud owner of an "R" class(or Unlimited).

Glen i think i might just take you up on your offer if that's alright? Being a student its not easy to come up with the money and my family said that i probably should put in a letter of complaint. Only thing is though i don't really know where it's going to get me or what good it will actually do?
