Re: To Crim or not to Crim ???
Didnt the 04 have gearbox issues. I looked into buying a CRIM a while back and was strongly advised by the head mechanic of a kwacka dealership to only buy an 05 model.
The 05 has a completely new gearbox revamped. Alot stronger apparently.

Re: To Crim or not to Crim ???
They did make a few changes, but I haven't actually heard of any gearbox's going yet, so who knows. I have remembered one other thing the 04's apparently have an occasional problem with and that's the generator blowing up and distributing frag all around the engine. Happened to a couple of guys in the states but again I don't know of anyone here who had it happen.

Re: To Crim or not to Crim ???
I agree Rob !!!
But i have since heard this from several well respected mechanics in the industry.
From a technical view, The revamp of the box was apparently that significant, that none of the 04 box internals fit in the 05 !!
So that does make you wonder why such a large change was required

Re: To Crim or not to Crim ???
Hmm very interesting about the technical problems.... One thing i did notice about this bike was when slotting the bike from 1st > N there was no resistance and it was uncertain weather the bike had gone from 1st to N even though the N light was on.... But then going back to first it clonked back in... so unsure if this is anything to do with it... as my 9, 636 and even zx2 all had a defined knochy feeling when going from 1st to N, rather than just sliding into N without any resistance....
Sounds a little confusing but anyone else with 04 having this.... What about you malcom ??

Re: To Crim or not to Crim ???
Well researching and reading more into it, i did come across US forums that were saying that the 04 did have a recall worldwide of 3 bikes in total (04 ZX10R) with a problem with casting issue of hte front wheel. But thats 3 worldwide and all in USA. So they went on to say perhaps there shitty roads etc etc.
Other issue was the Gearbox which was discussed. But no one had said or had anything to prove there was an issue with this and that KHI had held back the release of the 04 ZX10R a few months to fix this issue....
Anyway heard anything further on this.... Dam this bike needs a damper though its pretty nervous in the front!

Re: To Crim or not to Crim ???
Yeah just a little bit notchy going from 1st to Neutral but not too bad after a service with fresh oil & maybe a bit of clutch adjustment
I've rode both the Crim & Gumby & really the Crim feels the best as this topic shows

Re: To Crim or not to Crim ???
I've ridden an orange 04/05 model and loved it.
The bike pictured definitely needs the rack & pillion seat removed for maximum hotness.

As far as seat cowl, will the 06 fit or any other seat cowls of any other models fit of only the cirm made seat cowl, as i dont like the little cushion it has on it!
