Fun day.
I'm pretty pleased about my 21 year old TZR250 getting 39.5 hp at the wheel, with a fair bit of clutch slip. It just revved straight into the redline when it hit the powerband, and on the torque plot it shows. Torque starts rapidly rising and then suddenly drops to a constant level while the roller revs climb. I'll post the plot when I get around to scanning it.

What's this 19% factor? I thought it was to estimate flywheel power?

I asked Kon, and he kinda explained it. Phil Tainton's dyno gets the "highest" readings apparently. So what they do, is to try to get everyone on a level playing field, they work out the difference of the dyno's. Kon's dyno is 19%. So, if you go to Phil's dyno and get a read out, yours will be 46ish. Kon had the option to get the same dyno as Phil, but opted out as he found this one gives more accurate readings for tuning (With A/F mixtures etc). I hope that explains it a little, I'm still not 100% sure myself. But when the magz quote HP figures, sounds a lot more like the ones with +19%.

Well, the spelling of his surname is different, but it sounds the same you knob! I'm only working off what was said to me. I'm assuming it'd be one and the same.

I think it looks better in magazines with the 19% added. But I guess it comes down to the fact that "factory" dynos are preformed before the engine is put into the frame.... They test it directly off the crank, by the time it his the road you have lost 19% of your power.

This is true... Plus the addition of blue pinstriping on the wheels that must surely have added 7hp

Here you go. Note that this is tractive effort, which is proportional to torque. If the clutch wasn't buggered the torque should have peaked just before 10,000 rpm, which is the redline. How awesome are high power two strokes Although the power is obviously a lot lower than the larger sportsbikes. At least it only weighs 124 kg dry.

Brilliant day out, was nice to meet a few of you folks, 117.2 for the zx9 and it held together, 5 tight valve clearances and all! Kon reckoned I should be pretty happy with that as the best a 9 has acheived on his dyno is 121. something.

I had a chat to Kon at high octane motorcycles and there is an offer there for a dyno day so i just want to guage intrest.The charge would be $30.00 if theres enough interest.So whos up for it ??? We would need probably 10 bikes to get it going if thats the case then we would set a date that suits most people.They are located in thomastown

Any idea what type of equipment they use for dyno?

$30 is a bargain if ever there was one

hey all,

just touching base becasue my lead at work has given me nothing worth while to do and the IT people haven't blocked this forum.
Just so you all know, i was the one with the red/silver/black ZZR250 that came in at a tiny 24.8HP (29.518HP after 19%). I'll scan my dyno sheet in when I remember to bring it into work.

Was a good day over all, good hosting by John and Kon to be playing dyno all day, and great to meet everyone. Look forward to some furture rides here and there (when i learn how to corner properly). Cheers all.

Welcome to the forum Matt! If you haven't already, post up a thread in the introduction section with a pic of your bike! Keep an eye on the Rides section to see if there's an upcoming ride that you'd like to go on! People will usually tell you if it's not a ride for beginners etc.
