Fugly but cool and making us safer.

Post by graemec »

OK don't flame me for this as its a Honda... but as you know i work for a Road research company and just though that this might
interest a few peeps here :D :D

YES its fugly, NO I wouldn't ride one! but if you watch it i think the figures on face recognition and front end design on bikes is really cool.
You might notice that Yamaha and Honda & Kawasaki are already starting to make use of this.

Add a couple of low lights to your bikes lower frame and your allready more than half way there to making yourself safer at night :D

You WAY underestimated the FUGLY factor .

A few questions come to mind (and I got bored with the video after a couple of minutes, so they may have been answered):

1. What if the traffic is really heavy, the rider and car driver are both going to have sensory overload.
2. What if you/they are behind a truck and the camera can't see diddly-squat. Like that doesn't happen in traffic?
3. What if the driver was too busy eating/reading a paper/applying lipstick/FX Day-Trading/telling the kids to shut the fark up/changing the 10-stacker/listening to AC/DC at 110db and ignored this safety feature like they farking ignore red lights/Stop signs and oncoming vehicles.
4. Wouldn't it be easier if car drivers just slowed down and looked into the line of traffic and didn't discount anything smaller than a Falcon as a hazard?
5. What if there was a really strong wind and your camera pod made things too difficult to handle (it's bad enough some days with a top box)?
6. Do they REALLY think anyone riding a normal motorcycle (not some butt-ugly scooter) is going to ruin its looks and lower its top speed by installing that monstrosity?

Too much spare time and not enough driver and rider education...

/rant off, sorry

I wish i had that earlier today. some guy cut me off in a round about and i came inches from meeting his bonet.
The a$$hole didnt apologise or anything he just waved at me angryly to hurry up and pass already. obviously i was throwing my hands and feet around cursing him.

i wish i had that halo then...i would have reprogramed the sensor to shoot a lazer at drivers... then they will see me...

I agree on most of your point there lol but the thing i was pointing really pointing out was the fact that they are designing bikes front ends
to look like faces. This Increases other road users recognition of the fact theres a bike there either in their mirrors (if they bloody use em) or head on.
The recognition of that front end design is WAAAAAAAAAAAAY better and faster than a standard bike. :) :)
Some 40% better matter of fact.
Anyway as i said it was more to point out the front end design thats going on, something you can see in the new Kawa 10s , Dukes 1098 Yamaha R1's and in particular the new CBR. I was not for one minute suggesting we all strap a wopping great star wars thingy on the back of our rides and toddle off into the night.
Anyway im off to find a big bit of cardboard to paint a smiley face on and wop on the front of the bike

G :D :D :D :D

Theres only two kinds of riders... those that have thrown it down the rd and those that are yet to.
Are you sure i said that???
