Tyre triangulation

Post by Cath »

What causes tyres to triangulate? Particularly front tyres?
Road: 2005 ZX10R - not named yet
Road: 2008 Z750 - Kwak
Track: 2006 ZX6R - Yoshi (with a very Genki undertail)

cornering hard.... wears and tears the sides, the middle stays normal and you then have a triangle..

You then can have an unstable front end and head shakes. Wattie was suffering this after the P.I. ride and thought it was head bearings.. it wasn't..

one other factor...road camber

which unfortunately you cannot avoid
however fast you go round corners

Long highway running and the camber as mentioned kills the sides and makes what you call triangulation.

I think the technical term is scalloping.

jury is still out on this mate :?

havent done any bendies yet, but it still dont feel quite right.

those diablo corsa's are soft cath, i only been commuting, (have kishy strips like Franks) and they are furry on the front already. only about 200km on them :?

but yeah the bloody camber kills the right side.

jase i think scolloping is a bit different to the triangle cath speaks of.

my pilot power fronts always tend to scollop. it feels crappy and rough.

Agreed, the scollop effect is usually through low air pressures and hard braking but that is only part of the cause. Anyone that has ever seen a from that has done the Nullarbor knows what the camber does.

Glen
the tyre profile wears and goes 'triangular'' in shape
we aren't talking about the diameter of the tyre

cheers

I think maybe we should be. Can you imagine how difficult it would be to ride a bike with a Triangle shaped tyre. Much more difficult than some wimply little profile problem..
