So it's GONE!!!!
Speaks volumes about the rubbish they sell.
I've known and dealt with Jack Pengelly from Spot-On for 20 years now. I have bought and sold him bikes over those years, both before I was known to him by the trade, and when I was working in the trade. He has never, ever sold me a dishonest bike and I have never, ever had him lie, cheat or reneg on his promises. I guess it could depend on the calibre of bike you purshased off him, but even an old GSX750ESD he sold me was a good old honest and reliable bike! It did 60,000 klms under me trouble free.
As for the Beemer, as Beemers go it is brand new from the motor back! And on a Boxer, the motor is not the unreliable bit! So the bits which are likely to go at some point have ALL been replaced! As such, it should make a mint bike for the next owner. It's just that I don't bloody trust it anymore and it made it an unpleasant experience to ride it!
If you're gunna have a crack at Jack, back it up with some FACTS!
P.S. Lemme know if you're free tomorrow arvo, heading into City Yam
Drop past home on the way through. I am picking the beast up in the morning all things being equal. Just buzz me on the mobile when you're leaving and I'll give you the addy. If you drop a rock off the W.G. bridge it'd land on my roof!

I knew I'd get a bite.
Facts. Hows this.
Not so long ago someone I know traded a bike to him with a cracked frame caused by a low speed drop. Since it had been damaged by a third party he got a quote on repair which ran to $4200 which the third party paid in cash. Next step was to shift the bike in which case it was easiest to drift down Elizabeth st and enquire about " Cash paid for your motorcycle". Owner of the bike made out he wanted the bike gone as he needed cash quickly. Jack being a typical grubby representative of our motorcycle industry wrote a cheque on the spot for $3200 thinking he was taking advantage of the owner and looking to reap big rewards by paying 50% of market value and completely unaware of the bikes' sittuation. Needless to say that cheque was cashed before the ink had dried and not 7 days later that same bike was advertised on autotrader for $7650. I was in the neighbourhood and drifted past it on the footpath to see that it was being sold exactly as is - damaged frame and all. Sorry to the new owner. Caveat emptor.
Also know people that have spannered for this wonderful establishment. Lets just say they don't exactly sing praises about the "quality used bikes" sold out of there.
Good luck with your new bike Marty.
Sorry I couldn't just pat you on the back and say "Gee Wally thats swell!"
I got a sweater for my birthday. I realy wanted a moaner or a screamer.
I'll add my 2c worth to this discussion, I agree with Marty on this one, Jack is as honest as the day is long, it's the "Manager" Neil (or Wally as he is known around the traps) who is the shark. I have nothing against him personally but I've seen him in action too many times to have any respect for him.
If Jack buys a bike, he gets whoever his mechanic is at the time to do a cursory checkover & a test ride & uses any faults found as a negotiating tool - standard business practice - whereas Wal just screws the seller down as low as he can, buys the bike & then spends Jacks money fixing anything wrong.
I used to work at the wreckers next door & have seen each of them buy countless bikes, if someone offered a bike to Jack & it wasn't up to his standard, he'd pass the seller on to us, Wal, on the other hand, would buy the bike, sell it to us at a profit & take the difference as a commission for himself.
I've also had lots of rides, pub nights, etc, with the guys who worked there & they all have nothing but praise for Jack, he always honours legit warranty claims & doesn't shirk at spending money on a bike to bring it up to scratch before it goes out the front, he knows what good business is all about. I've also seen Jack buy the occasional bike only to get it into the workshop & realise it's a lemon, he would come in to us & see if we were interested in it (Motabitz would sell ANYTHING) & if we weren't he'd wholesale it out to the trade, usually at a loss.
Spot On do buy a few crashed bikes, repair them & onsell them but as far as I've seen, they do it right & by the book.
I'd buy a bike off them tomorrow, of course I'd go over it with a fine toothed comb but I'd do that with any bike I bought from anywhere, at the end of the day it's caveat emptor.
As an aside, you'd be amazed at the prices some guys are willing to sell their bikes for, for whatever reason, some people are happy to sell for thousands below what the bike is worth on the open market just for the sake of a quick sale, if there was a bike I was interested in, I'd ask one of the boys there what they paid for it & nearly fell over in disbelief several times.

Oh...how silly of me!! I now see of course! So someone you know knowingly fobs a bike with a cracked frame off to a dealer and the dealer is the bad guy hey? Interesting ethics! No wonder Hoffy reckons you're a wanker!
You pick out one isoalted incident and tar everything with the same brush! My experiences are numerous and personal, unlike your second hand so called FACTS! I love how third parties who are also privvy to a deception, or as it's more commonly known, fraud, are able to bravely announce themselves ANONYMOUSLY. I'm sure Jack would be more than interested in that story if you should care to tell him in person!

I back up Strika 110% on this. Your 'mate' knowingly sold a fucked motorcycle (after pocketing the insurance money intended to fix it), probably told a long winded, bleeding heart story to every possible vendor about the reason for selling it so cheaply in order to cover up the smell of bullshit emanating from the core of his vile, black, spineless guts, knowing full well that the bike is dangerous to ride and not giving a second thought to the fact that he may have just killed a fellow motorcyclist who happened to buy the bike. Since your 'mate' sold it to this guy Jack (who I have never heard of before) and not to one of the other many dealers along Elizabeth St, it can be safe to assume that he offered the best price out of the lot of them probably to help the guy out in his sham life crisis. As the cheque was also 'cashed before the ink even dried' it's obvious that your 'mate' is a natural crook and shyster and finds this kind of behaviour not only acceptable but amusing also. As a fellow 'grubby representative' I sincerely hope that his wife and daughter buy a car to travel across the Simpson Desert with a
fuel pump that leaks directly onto the exhaust manifold and a firewall constructed from tin foil.(Traded of course by someone like your 'mate')
I cannot use the language I feel the need to use to express my absolute disgust in this mendacious recreants behaviour so I will end here wishing him an early front axle failure, mid-corner at $2.50
P.S. All of the bikes we buy or trade are strenuously inspected in order to ferret out the rats and ensure that we are never exposed to this sort of shit.
I picked up the ZRX completely relaxing and hassle free. Clean, fuelled up, rack loop fitted, new tyres and full 12 months rego and stamp duty paid! I must just have been lucky in my 200 plus dealings with Jack and Spot-On Motorcycles!
Back to the Rexess! I have only done 20 kilometres since I picked it up so it's a little premature to make any comments regarding how it steers. But, once on the move it's steering is light in feel. Very light! The motor starts ripping the arms out of the sockets from about 2000rpm and then stops pulling your arms out just as quickly at around 8000rpm, where this isn't really any point taking it to the redline. It would be nice to have the same bottom end but with a 160hp top end.....of course without having to fit a pipe! I hate noisy bikes cause i'm and old git! !
The brakes feel just like the 9's oddly enough and the gearbox and motor feel just like a ZZR1100 oddly enough! The fairing is something Kawasaki either spent a lot of time sorting prior to production or just got very very lucky as it is a corker. It cossetts you in an almost still pocket of air with no noise, whistles or buffetting!!! The ride position is almost identical to the beemer believe it or not! The only thing I had to do was roll back the handlebars a touch as they were sticking up at an odd angle! I like em a bit flatter with flat levers. Did i mention that it's grunty?
The space under the seat is bloody awesome, I have stowed enough gear in there to make space in my gearsack bag by almost half!!!! Top stuff. It also has another little storage box up near the tail light where the tool kit is located which can fit some gloves, sunnies and a few other bits too.

i have found the underseat storage handy for a bike cover and other stuff on the way to the island and that little compartment at the back is neat with its little fold down lid.
Also i can confirm that a kerker and jet kit wont diminish the bottom end - but it will pull to redline in 1st-2nd-3rd (on a private test facility) without protesting, in fact you are there before you know it.
and isnt that grunt fantastic, on a windy road just leave it in one gear and awaaaaay we go. I have even ridden with the boys and just left it in top (5th)
Just did 340klms as a test run for next week. Nothing fell off, nothing broke, nothing leaked and everything worked! Oh...that's right, it's a Kawasaki of course!!!!
Not too many thoughts so far, except for definately changing the eccentrics over before too long. It's a tad lazy!
I also crawled all over it this arvo and couldn't find a mark or a stone chip....that won't last long!!!

Righto then clearly I'm a fuckhead and all the dealers along Elizabeth street are as honest as the day is long
Facts:
I was there when the bike was traded, when it was test ridden by a "mechanic" and when the cheque was written.. Nothing was concealed and no bluff was made towards the dealer. It was a ZX9 with a major crack through the left hand beam, the fairing rubbed and to sight it down the centreline clearly showed that something was amiss. Steveo's and City Yamaha picked it up in under a minute. Spot On didn't. They are I believe a licensed RWC issuer and sold the bike on in its condition and so shows how thorough the checks were. This of course shows no real blight on the business owner. More the staff that are employed. Still the consequences and the reputation are clearly those of the proprietor.
Yes the seller pocketed all the cash, but at the time thought it better to fob it off on the trade for a discount price than to do the same and sell it for market value to an unsuspecting private buyer. Is this dishonest? No bloody way! They are the experts and they are the ones that should recognize faults with the vehicles they are selling. As for dishonesty and all else hows their form for offering less than half of market price only to more than double it to onsell it without so much as an oil change? As I said Caveat emptor.

Nick I can understand your venom but as your post script says, you cover all angles to ensure that this does not happen to you. But accept the fact that it does happen. As far as dealers go then its "fuck them or be fucked over". And don't try to tell me you haven't screwed someone down on a trade in price to ensure your own end of month figures add up.
I'm not wanting to kiss your arse at all but by far you are a standout from many others in the industry in that you invest time and effort in cultivating your market by attending forums like this and making genuine offers towards those in the motorcycling community.
Whatever.
Marty
Nice bike. Now go and ride it all over the country and be sure to tell us everywhere you go.
Your the best mate!
"Gee Wally. Thats swell"
By the way what price was the trade in on the BMW? And even if it did leave a "Bad taste" how confident are you that it will be a good buy at the price it will be onsold for? Don't tell me you ran all the way home to go fetch it because you were looking to help out Jack with a good price? Oh thats right you already mentioned that you got above what you expected and therefore rushed home as quick as you could just to offload it! Hypocrite!
I got a sweater for my birthday. I realy wanted a moaner or a screamer.
I traded the beemer because I had no confidence in it anymore. It has a NEW clutch, Gearbox, and complete drive assembly front to back as well as a new starter. As far as I am aware however, it doesn't have a dirty crack in the frame. Also, as far as I am aware, the bike was in a safe and roadworthy condition! Unlike, selling a bike you KNOW is fucked! I can't believe you actually got back in here to defend yourself. You obviously have no morals or ethics, as you clearly state that you knew it was farked AND you were present and complicate in the deception. You can play your cute "gee swell" games all you like. I'm not the one who committed fraud AND potentially caused the death or injury of a fellow motorcyclist. We are only discussing Spot-On, not ALL THE DEALERS ON ELIZABETH ST either S & W. I also am gob smacked that you do not consider such an act as immoral or deceitful!!
As for writing about my travels, I'll spell it out to you. If you don't like my writings, you can actually CHOOSE not to enter that thread. It really easy, all you do is not push the button when the mouse hovers over it and guess what....it doesn't go there and you don;t have to read it!!! Problem solved!
Oh, and I do agree with you...clearly you are!

The difference being, I disclosed any and all issues which I knew of. Such as the centre stand needing a bolt, the front discs needing machining but still plenty of meet on them and that the bike was a repairable write off! I didn't fraudelently present the bike to them.
I really can't beleive you don't see what you did as wrong! I guess it is indicative of your character!
