I've got a bit of a dilemma. Last year I low sided when a driver "didn't see me" and I think it's unlikely that he'll be found at fault, so I'll pay $900 of excess. The damage quote is over $2000 just for a few small bits of damage. Scraped: mirror, clutch lever, bar end, front mudguard, shift lever, centre stand and muffler. The handle bar also dented the tank and indicator got smashed. The fairing has cracked where vertical and horizontal parts meet in front of the left handle bar and the left corner has been ground down a bit. I've been riding it in this condition for almost a year, it's just cosmetic (well, my soldered on naked indicator bulb is probably unroadworthy).
The bike is a 2003 GPX with 23000 km and I've done the servicing by the book. Do you guys think it's worth paying the excess and repairing it before selling it (off restrictions end of Feb), or should I just replace the indicator and sell it? I'd be happy to get around $3500 for it and I could put up with getting 3000, am I totally dreaming?
Strange thing about this is that Western QBE only tries to recover their money from the other party (and pay back my excess) once the bike has been repaired, so I can't choose to repair only if the other guy is at fault.
Pay $900 excess for a GPX250 low side or sell as is?

Repair it and pay the excess , will be much easier to sell and probably will get more than $3500 when its nice and tidy . People don't like to buy scratched bikes when there is a nice shiny one for the same money .
Ummmm let me see

I say advertise it as is first. You might get lucky.
That still leaves you with the choice to decide what to do. If it doesnt sell at least then you'll be armed with more information about what will sell and what wont around your area.
Neka is right. It will effectively cost you more than $900 when it results in increased premiums for future insurance after making a claim.
Good luck on the selling.

Sell it broken...
If you detail the damage, the prospective buyer can do his/her own sums...

Thanks for the replies guys. I will just fix the indicator and give it a shot. Are any of you interested in buying it?
