rear tail lights on a zzr250 and another question

Post by MrWasabi »

Having pulled all the farings off my 250 i noticed 2 things, 1 the tail lights seem to have been built in to the rear farings on some particular model. If som does anyone know where i can pick some up?
rewiring the old dodgy looking ones which stick out to the sides would be an easy task i would think, just need to get my hands on some replacement lights.

secondly, there are 4 "hooks" on the rear farings just under the passanger seat, lift them up you expose some big screws to take the farings off... apart from this, do these hooks serve any other purpose? it seems like quite an elaborate way to hide 4 simple screws when the rest of the farings are held in with black screws...

please enlighten me :)

If I get the gist of this then
1. Yes there are rear indicators covered in factory paint on you rear end. ADR's say that indicators must be a certain distance apart and thus they are mounted on your rear guard instead. Not as the japanese designers planned.
2. Those things covering the bolts are luggage hooks. Used for atatching occy straps / string / duct tape.
I got a sweater for my birthday. I realy wanted a moaner or a screamer.

1. dang, i would have really liked to clean up the read end of the 250, ugly enough as it is. So if its an ADR standard there would be bugger all chance of getting those indicators in aus locally?
might consider the chop of the elongated mud guard to clean up the back instead...
2. double dang, i was hoping that they were some sort of helmet clip to which i was missing a part to or something.
thanks for the speedy answer :)

coupla things mate...

1. cutting down the rear fender is illegal and defectable (i just got done in sa)... so if ur gunna do that, might as well do the indicators as well...

2. looks for those indicator covers on ebay or US sites..

thanks for the heads up.
if cutting down the rear fender is defectable, someone might want to put a little clause in this how to then, just in case some read it and have hacksaw in hand ready to go

you could try getting the unpainted lenses and some bulb holders at a jap bike importer.

there's a helmet hook under the seat on each side if u need one.

You can try cleaning the paint off your painted over indicators using thinner - I've heard it was successful.

I put a request in on findapart to get my flushmount indicator set,
Removed the stalks but left the fender there, haven't had any issues with it so far from the police and I've seen other ZZR's around with the same setup, and no problems at all.

They look better than the stalks too, heres mine:

the hooks on the sides are for racks or crash straps
