Stop Front Mounted Number Plates Petition
Stop Front Mounted Number Plates Petition
Please sign the "Front ID / Front Mounted Number Plate" Petition!!!
We want to stop the governments proposal for front mounted numbers plates on motorcycles! The proposal has little to do with safety, and all to do with revenue raising and vehicle tracking.
We have to be proactive in our fight for whats right.

Re: Stop Front Mounted Number Plates Petition
Ooh, another petition.... *sigh*
If you really want to be proactive in the fight against front number plates, then I suggest you start finding reasons to counteract their proposals. IE: Why shouldn't you have front number plates?
Do some research, put together a paper and present that with a list of signatures supporting the proposal.

Aren't online petition sites just a easy way for rouges to collect loads of email addresses and sell them to the highest bidder - probably without actually sending the list to the party you are petitioning against?

not if the site is constructed correctly and the only people able to access the emails the site themselves. i think onlinepetition.com and others mostly now only use the email address as an internally identifier and it doesnt get submitted at all to their web accessible pages. i think.

Re: Stop Front Mounted Number Plates Petition
Meh - I dont see the problem with the front plates on bikes. Like Aardvark said - Why shouldnt we have them?
I dont see anyone whinging that there is a front plate on a car.
As long as the plate is easily mounted, doesn't look completely ridiculous and isn't a hazzard, then who cares.
I would be more inclinded to sign a petition saying - Hey can we have stickers for the screen/front of bike rather then an actual plate.

We have plenty of reasons why front number plates shouldn't be mandatory. Check out http://www.mraa.org.au (Motorcycle Riders Association Of Australia).aardvark wrote:Ooh, another petition.... *sigh*

Re: Stop Front Mounted Number Plates Petition
I honestly don't see how you can object when 99% of vehicles on the road have plates front and back. So it means a speed camera can get you from the front? If you're dumb enough to go through a fixed speed camera then cop it and get on with life. (and I will point out that I have been dumb enough to go through a fixed speed camera). They want to use Crimtrak to monitor vehicle movements (and the problem with that is????). It's going to cost us to do it. Yeah not great but if it's a sticker version for faired bikes then that costs me nothing
My only possible objection could be that it will make my bike look shit and really that isn't a valid problem in the scheme of things.

I want the old school metal ones on the front guard, so I can carve up pedestrians, and those cyclists on the old road !!

Re: Stop Front Mounted Number Plates Petition
If I had one of the old metal plates I reckon I could take out 100 cyclists a week easily... head to work along Yarra Boulevard around 630 am ish and there's hundreds of em. Think the reality is MOST motorcyclists don't want front numberplates as it means we can be detected by a lot more speed cameras, personally speaking, it's definately the reason I don't want em..

Re: Stop Front Mounted Number Plates Petition
From the Motorcycle Council of NSW
http://www.mccofnsw.org.au/a/33.html
Briefly:
Front Plates
Removed 30 years ago because of injuries to pedestrians
Other countries don't need them
Rear facing speed cameras are successful
Transport policy repeatedly ignores motorcycles. No in-depth research
Introducing front facing cameras ignored motorcycles
Front facing cameras set up to capture prime-mover, not trailer
Semitrailers can easily carry a duplicate plate alongside the trailer plate
Vicroads now blames motorcycles for failing to fit a defective strategy
Vicroads now demanding motorcycle riders pay $70 million for policy failure. That's on top of government costs of $70 million
Speed detection is already very good for all vehicles
Turn the cameras to face the rear
When a pedestrian is hit by a motorcycle, it is either a glancing blow and the pedestrian is knocked over, or it is a “T-Boning” with the front wheel of the motorcycle going between the legs of the pedestrian. In the case of glancing blows, the edges of the front numberplate would slash the pedestrian. In the case of a “T-Bone”, the numberplate could sever both leg arteries in the groin area and the victim could bleed to death before the ambulance arrived.
They were similarly dangerous to bicycle and motorcycle riders.
As a consequence, front numberplates were removed in most countries, including Australia, over 30 years ago.
The small transverse plate phased out in the mid 1970's.
The Vicroads proposal wants front numberplates re-installed.

Re: Stop Front Mounted Number Plates Petition
IF we get front numberplates again I reckon you can be pretty safe in asuming they won't be the same thing, chunk of metal along the guard, after all, even if it is a revenue thing then the plate will make no diff unless camera is taking shots from the side or at an oblique type angle.
Pedestrain council nutter bloke would go nuts (even more so) too if we get those plates back.

Re: Stop Front Mounted Number Plates Petition
Cop bikes here are sporting what appear¹ to be stick on ones. While that solves the mounting problem on a faired bike, I don't see it working for nakeds. Further, it seems to me that there would be a lot of 'stolen/missing' plates in very short order.
¹. Not that I want to get a close look.

Yeah, they are reflective stick on ones. We use them aswell. They don't really detract from the look of the bike, but then again, it is a BMW.Daisy wrote:Cop bikes here are sporting what appear¹ to be stick on ones.
