First and foremost, this forum is for Kawasaki loving souls to meet like minded spirits, not a Kawasaki fault diagnostic service for all and sundry! We offer what we can when we can, and tend to throw a deal of humour into the pot too. If you had read the site before posting you would have seen that. Perhaps you could have introduced yourself first rather than asking for something without giving to the forum.

What year is your dads GSXR1000? I wouldn't expect a 98 ZX9 to keep up with an 07 GSXR. I would expect it to lift the front. As you are a mechanic I assume the motor is running right?

Just saying the bike is slow could be a great number of things.

Perhaps someone has stuffed around with the gear ratio? If the motor is in fine tune, sounds good, revs crisp when not under load it may have a small rear sprocket or large front sprocket. Some people think this will give them high top speed, but it just overloads the motor. Not sure on the stock ratio, but am sure someone here will post it.

91 octane fuel will make it slow (also old fuel, diesel and Shell Optimax!)

Dirty plugs will make it slow

Poor fuel/air mixture will make it slow - check carbs, air filter, fuel filter, fuel tap, jets and mixture settings

Weak electrics could make it slow - check battery, plug leads, plugs, rectifier, alternator.

Old oil could make it slow - change it to be sure

Compression could be down - check valve clearance, rings, bore condition and head gasket

Throttle cable could be shagged, dry or kinked - not easy to pull a stiff throttle back creating a feeling of a slow bike

Wheel bearings could be stuffed, retarding rotation to the point the bike is slow

Brakes could be binding slowing the bike

The person riding the bike could be slow. The bike will not 'pop a mono' if you twist the throttle at 2000rpm in 1st. Get it upto 6500 rpm and 'jab' the throttle to end stop - the front WILL lift.

Check the cam timing, one tooth out will run smooth as but lose a lot of power.I have a C1 ZX9 and it will mono very easily in first and just by using the throttle in second. Third requires the clutch.
