Music on the move???

I love music and always listen to my iPod while commuting. However I for some reason have always only ever used one earbud. I do this for safety reasons so I still have some awareness of noise/sounds in my surroundings.

I was interested to know if others think this way or alternatively go the no music option for safety reasons or full on music.

So here is a new poll.

I have a generic chinese clone mp4 player (it has radio & mp3 playback) and use it together with these earphones. I cannot recommend them highly enough. they have a loop that goes around the back of the neck and a mounting harness so you dont need a pocket to use a radio/mp3 player. In ear buds that block 80%+ of outside sound exactly like earplugs and the sound reproduction is absolutely fantastic, especially for lower frequencies (it sounds just as good as my car system cranked right up) and doesn't have a high current drain. I've had them for, uhm, about a year and a half, maybe a bit more and are still just as good as the day i got them.

I listen to music all day

The last thing i wanna do is listen to music while im ridin a bike.

Plus in my opinioin, i think its extremely dangerous.
There are plenty of other people on the road with various in car activities distracting them,
so i need to be aware of my surroundings at all times

I recently bought some Sennheiser-CX-300 to replace the ultra crappy ones that come with the iPod. For those of you with iPods, do yourself a favour as somebody used to say and get a new pair! Amazing the difference in quality.... now the only problem is the quality of some of my ripped mp3's!

Yeah I have a playlist of "Heavy" music for when I am running late!

Nolan N102 with Bluetooth kit - has a plug to connect your MP3 player. Sounds ok up to 110-120kmh.

If im riding by myself I usually will listen to music with both earbuds in. I use a little Ipod shuffle those really small square ones and clip it on the back of my right glove so I can change tracks, turn it down, mute, or what ever. Works really well and stays on at a pace too. Only problem is once you get a good song on your bike suddenly has more power

i use same kinda headphones at mike, except i use panasonic version, i stick my ipod on top pocket, and it lasts about a week or so of commuting b4 i need to charge

used it on the way to PI once, had it clipped on my arm so i could skip songs etc, got to like 45mins of riding, it got to cold and locked up

it lives in pocket now

One of the best rides I ever did was in NZ with a Gatecrasher (Uplifting trance) album playing while I went through through a section of road that started with a "Twisty road next 46kms' sign. Brilliant sunshine with green everywhere and a dry road with no one on it. Couldn't ask for more.
Worst song to ride to: 'Bat out of hell' by Meatloaf, especially near the end of it because you look down at the speedo and go: 'Whoah! Where did all those bloody numbers come from?!'

I used to never get on the bike without the music going (even though it's only like three songs to get to work)... don't know how but I got out of the habit... now I usually only use it on boring straight roads (to Cooma!) though I did have it going through some twisties the other week and it was great Spiderbait's version of Black Betty is a very "inspirational" song! I always used both headphones and had it LOUD

Funny, I was just looking at ipods today for when I'm riding- so watching this topic with interest.

Anyhow- it's gotta be safer than me singing as loud as I do in my helmet- that's noise pollution!
