I am still partial to the 10 given the whole "keep the revs up" thing, but on public roads, this may not be the best idea.....fewer gear changes means less rooting around with the lever and more time for fun.

I did love my 05 10, but a baby and a new SUV put an end to that pretty quick.

In the next few months or so, I'll start seriously looking for an 04/05 10 so if you think you might know one that might be coming up for sale in Melbourne, please keep me posted.

Thanks again....

Funny, you are most likely to lose your license on a ZX6R 636 than a ZX10R IMHO...I'm testament to this! I believe firmly that had I been riding my ZX9R as opposed to my 636 recently when I overtook a cop in a undercover vehicle I would not have lost my license...just had a big fine. The reason is because I would not have shifted down a cog to overtake. The ZX9R has enough torque to amuse oneself without the need to change gear, whereas the 636 needed the extra omphhh to get the same buzz that I was used too (this would not be the same for those who have never ridden a bigger bike mind you). I revved the 636 until I got that familiar feeling of pulling like a schoolboy and before I knew it I was at 175kph right in the firing line of mr plod! When he told me what speed I was doing I was genuinely surprised! I would have guessed about 140kph but not 175kph! DOH!
Now 2005, ZX6R 636's ROCK MY WORLD!!!

Sorry to hear about the licence....

Back when I had my ZX7, I was caught on the freeway here in Melbourne doing 175kph.

When Mr Plod pulled me over after I slowed down, he asked me how fast I was going. I said, how fast did you get me at?

He told me he estimated I was doing 170kph. I informed him I was doing 125kph and he argued that he had to do 150kph to catch up to me. I insisted I was at 125 kph as any more than 130kph results in a loss of licence. I offered him my bike so as he can test the speedo. I did this becasue he was guessing.

He ended up booking me for 129kph, so I just copped it on the chin and paid the fine.....very lucky I think.

Maybe on the 10, I'll give a real run, just see how fast he thinks he can go.....

i love my 636, have never ridden a 10 so i cant rteally offer you an oppinion on both.

My frame also tends to get hot, i feel it more so when im just riding in shoes, but when im in my full gear i dont feel it at all.

Sorry, to go OT but is it common for the 636's to run hot?

Tourers and cruisers also don't need much shifting, in fact, they're designed for lazy riding.

I own a 05 zx6r and I dont get the heat on the frame like how you guys are all describing.

I really dont see the point of going back down to a 600 unless you are planning to do alot of hill runs or track days. The zx6r is more nimble and you can go into and out of the corner faster than the 10 but the 10 would be perfect for the streets. You cant deny the torque of the 10 and torque is really important on the street. IMO get the 10r coz it has power, torque and the motor of the 1 litre sounds hawt!

Well if its torque what our after for city use, as you don't use many rev's it should be a 9 your after as the mid range is very punchy and grunty! I love my 9 in the traffic!
