yea, exactly even on a Z1 finding red is pretty tuff on the street

i haven't even found 5th or 6th gear yet!

i'm gonna change the oil and filter this weekend just to be safe, i tend to stick with Motul half synth since most decent mechs use the same brand. - i should ask the place i bought it from what oil they use to.

cheers

Ian Irving did an article on what happens to the engine during run-in a few years back in Rapid magazine. I don't remember a lot of the details, but basically too hard or too soft and the hone on the bore doesn't get worn properly and you may have problems. The long and short of it, if I remember correctly, was to just ride the thing without babying it or flogging it.

For anyone buying a bike new, dump the oil as soon as you get it home & look at all the shiny little metal particles suspended in it! See if that doesn't underline the need to change oil more frequently than the manual suggests (especially during the early life of the bike).
I've spent over 40 years of my life riding bikes .... the rest of it, I wasted ..
