Re: summer riding jacket
Yeah, twice. After the second one I got a free helicopter ride to hospital but the jacket did pretty well. Now remember I took these photos for the insurance company of the person who hit me (they bought me a new jacket). In terms of injuries, didn't loose a single bit of skin, and did slide down the road at 80+ km/h. My injuries were soft tissue damage around the spine, and nothing that any jacket be reasonably expected to protect me from (I now wear a Dianese Wave12 back protector too, but that's another story).Shifty wrote:Anyone ever crashed in a summer jacket?

Firstly, the lid (to give you an idea of the impact) And the jacket. It split along one seam Wore a very small hole in the sleeve And had a bit of a slide on my back These days I only ever ride in a two-piece set of leathers and don't think cordura is anywhere near as good, but the Dririder gear is pretty good to crash in
Also consider asking ty to post pics of his Dririder jacket after two serious crashes - it's almost untouched.

Re: summer riding jacket
Depending on what it is of course, I have had a pretty good run out of non leather gear in terms of crashes. An old nylon alpine jacket tore itself to bits but saved me any loss if skin and the Joe rocket Alter ego took a 70kph spill into an armco and narely had any damage. I still wear it today.
P.S. to answer your question, as it is most likely only to be used on hot dry days I would recommend not looking at any of the waterproof ones. They all retain the heat.

Re: summer riding jacket
I've always figured that if your gear saves you once it's done it's job and if it needs replacing... well meh so be it. My Icon Team Merc jacket is awesome, it seems pretty sturdy, not mesh but has fabric panels on the inner arms and down the side of the torso to let breeze through... but the lighter colours make such a difference when slow/stopped in the sun! I also have a black/blue motodry one which is a bit cooler at speed, but when stopped it was hell compared to this one. Hasn't been crash tested and hopefully never will be... but I think it would hold up okay.

Re: summer riding jacket
Thanks
It looks like I'll be going to a few shops to look for a jacket and gloves to wear, when its realy hot, after reading and seeing those pics . My Collins leather jacket is great but I find on realy hot days I'm always dreading the thought of puting it on .

Re: summer riding jacket
i've got a joe rocket phoenix jacket and whilst very cool doest offer very much protection. I would think that the protection pads are thick enough that they would take a fair while to wear through tho......i would never wear it on a RIDE ride tho - if you know what i mean
funnily enough i never seem to ride as fast when i have it on
- bloody cool on a hot day tho.

Re: summer riding jacket
Who's got the biggest range of Joe Rocket gear to "try on" in Sydney?
Im looking for a jacket myself ( for my trip in the alps in June/July )
But im looking for one that will handle all kind of weather conditions like the alter ego maybe

Re: summer riding jacket
I have a Joe Rocket UFO jacket.. Bit blingy, but is a mesh style jacket with full armour and removable liner.. Also have a draggin jacket, which doesnt have any armour, but is lined with kevlar and is not to bad in the heat.. As for gloves, i only ever wear summer gloves. I actually just bought in from the states the Joe Rocket ZX gloves. Have a leather and mesh upper with knuckle protection, and leather palm.. Have other pairs of gloves that are fine in summer, just get short gloves and make sure they have good palm protection. Check the sites O/S they have much more range than here..
