How dangerous is this?

This is one of the signs for a roadside fruit n veg. You can just see the roof of the shed above the pedestrian sign. It is in a 100kmh zone and there is usually gravel at least a metre across the bitumen. The road crew were through there this morning.

That's what I thought. But ... prepared to give them (they're oldies) the benefit of the doubt, I stopped there yesterday and politely asked him to move it - before the corner, after the corner or closer to the fence. I spent ages explaining about apexes and line of sight and he said nobody had ever said anything before. That's the way it goes though. There have probably been hundreds of people muttering to themselves as they drive past, but never bother to actually do something. So anyway, after I thought I'd got through to him that he couldn't have put it in a more dangerous position he said he would move it.
Today I came past and it was back.
So I came home and got the camera and let him see me taking photos. If it is there again tomorrow I make an official complaint. I actually don't know how he got permission to put the shed where it is, but as long as there are no signs jumping in my face in the apex (Christ it startled me the first time!) I can keep an eye out for shoppers ... and log trucks crossing the double line as they come toward me.

well done daise..chap obviously is not to concerned with your explanation of the dangers to road users in "general" given location of stall......is a problem all over, particularily in tourist frequented areas(ie tassie ) ..but full points for the attempt..given time he may just ponder the point and move his stand..local council may dissaprove should it be brought to their attention

Well I took the little Kodak with me, but the thing was having a disagreement with its batteries and wouldn't work properly. One pic comes up as an unreadable file. So I used the phone camera whilst standing in the shade. The Fuji is too big to put in my pocket.
As for what I'm on about ... the sign attached to the guidepost on the apex of that corner. I can cope with log trucks, gravel on the road, cars stopping suddenly or pulling out without indicating and the school bus that stops just over the crest. But having that sign pop up at me mid corner was the last straw.
I've been guilty myself of not doing anything about it. In the past I've driven past it in the car and commented more than that it is a really stupid place for a sign. Its a seasonal thing and he's only just put it back up.

We all know where an official complaint will get ya......the council will put up a sign that says the are signs close to the road. The signs around here that tell you there are trees close too the road.

You can only do so much, but if you did want to make an official complaint: write a letter to council (don't email it because it's not classified as "Correspondence" and they don't have to act on it) then forward the same letter to the postal address given at this web site: http://www.treasury.tas.gov.au" target="_blank TI. 1219 - Procurement Complaints: building and construction/roads ...Make sure you include a copy of your pics and and date them.

If still nothing done and you want an immediate action .....go with Neka's idea and axe it

Well I have some good news and some bad news. I'm really disappointed that a chat and a polite request didn't have the desired effect.
However, after looking up the relevant section of the vehicle and traffic act, finding the council boundary, locating the relevant council chambers (it isn't ours) and having the photo dated and timed and in my pocket - I got down the road to find that he'd moved it.



So ... if someone doesn't do as you want - intimidate them.
