When I first started riding I was not told about it and I noticed riders would do the little nod so I asked a couple of mates that have been ridding longer than I have and they said it was just polite gesture to nod, but dont nod at HD so I have been doing ever since I dont care if I get one back as long as I was nice enough to nod. But I reckon the next best thing to riding on a bike is getting a little nod. :P :P :P :P

It costs nothing to nod and your response is the reason it's dying out
Give 'em a nod - a wave of the finger wotever but 1st and foremost keep your concentration on the wankers around you ;)

I always wave or nod at bike police even the ones pulled over on the side of the road (if they're not stopping someone or busy etc)

Always gets returned because I must be riding in a friendly way.

I find even the car officers which are parked with the bikes are friendly and will wave I figure the more friendly I am with the police hopefully the more they don't make assumptions about all riders.

Who's got the time to work out if they're on the right sort of bike? FFS people, just fuckin' nod to 'em all and let god sort 'em out. I don't care if I get one back or not, and can no longer be arsed working out if it's a HD, if the rider is properly attired, etc, etc.

I love the way this topic pops up every now and then - and the responses hardly vary at all .....

I give the nod to just about everyone, more out of habit than anything else. Its too hard a habit to break after 27 years.......but the "return nods" are definitely on the decline - except out on the highway. Around town ?? f'n forget maybe 60-70% don't return the nod at all......

And its not a 'nod' anymore, at least for me - its more of a 'tip' of the lid - Top to right, bottom to left, about a 4cm movement. Does this make me some sort of spastic nodder ?? Maybe thats why I don't get any nods back ??? :?

I blame Generation Y. For everything !

I'm a nodder, just like teh camaradarie it creates, the response is SLOWLY improving I reckon. Had a big smile come back at me today when I said g'day to female scooter rider on Ascot Vale rd today. I even nod at posties and coppers, even Hardly riders although never expect a response back from them.

Ya gotta nod, it's part of what we are and what we do. Remember when I first started riding and past one, then two riders and they gave me the nod. Asked Dad who had been riding for 40 years plus what's the story with all this nodding was and he said you just do it!

Only Harley riders I nod at are the ridgey didge bikies - they usually respond.

The only ones I don't bother with are those Harley riding tossers with open face black helmets, aviator Ray Ban's and sleevless leather vests.

I nod to all and sundry on anything that could reasonably be called a motorcycle (although it's more of an odd diagonal motion). Always have, always will.

I seem to get a fair few nods back, but I don't really give a shit if I do or not. Others might choose to be uncivil (or just off in their own little world), doesn't mean I have to be. 8)

Wat about this... if there is a rider stopped at a set of lights will you pull up right beside him and say gday or sit back a bit from him and just give him a nod, it has happened to me a couple of times some riders will come up right beside you where others will keep there distance
