Mick, I think your arse dyno is a fair bit more accurate than others!

Hey thats the stats on the 04 which is more powerful than the 07, i think even the 06 has more bottom end than the 07 that i rode(not confirmed).

take the 07 for a spin and tell me what you think after you have ridden the 07 as thats the bike were interested, not the 04/05 (i refused to beleive it was gutless too -the 07) from the sounds of it the 05 sounds heaps more powerful than the 07 down low (judging from those dyno charts too)

Mick i was thinking more along the lines of never argue with an fool, it will bring you down to there level then they will beat you with experience :D
so if acceleration = change in speed over time, with the same HP in those rev ranges or more, if the gearing is taller wouldn’t that mean the acceleration is not as high?(regardless of horse power, hence the ass dyno results also)

Yeah Ive heard the ZX9 produces more mid range than the ZX10. Is that true????

Let's try something a little different. How about correct riding technique? Back to the future!

Part of correct technique is being in the right gear for the corner. On a ten (or a nine, actually - "gutless" is pretty relative in this company) that puts it squarely in the "scary" zone. Progression of events as follows:

1. Enter one midcorner bump. The experienced rider has encountered this stuff a lot, and muscle memory decides how to counter the throttle reaction. The noob does not have this muscle memory, and therefore jerks the throttle.

2. Whoops! Newbie spins up rear wheel accidentally. Again, the experienced rider has probably felt this before, and MAY be able to catch it, but by this time the poor noob is lost. They almost always lack the feel (so do a lot of "experienced riders", but that's another story) that would have enabled them to save themselves from ...

3. THE HIGHSIDE. Newbie complains about tyres, road conditions or ANYTHING BUT THEIR OWN LACK OF CONTROL.

The point? Oh, ok. Sure, you can potter around on a 10. It'll look silly, but that doesn't stop a lot of people. It won't be conducive to learning good technique. For some reason I think there's an echo in here ...

All I can say, looking at the dyno between a ZX9 and a ZX10 is that the only part of the rev range where the power curve is steeper on the 9 than the 10 is between 5-6000RPM. From 6000rpm onwards, the 10's power curve is far steeper. Sure, if you ride under 6000 rpm it won't pick up quite so quick. However, even at 5,000rpm, the 10 is still kicking out 10% more power; 56hp on the 9 + 10% = 61.6hp and the 10R is at 62hp. Lets be kind and say a ZX9 weighs 190Kg, the 10R is 175Kg. The 10 is aproximately 8% lighter with 10% more power at 5000rpm. oR in power to weight terms, at 5000rpm the 9 has 0.29Hp per Kg, where the 10 at the same rev range has 0.35Hp per Kg. As a comparison, a Honda CRV was 0.07Hp per Kg at peak power, and even the mighty Dodge Viper has a peak power to weight ratio of 0.5hp per Kg

By 8000rpm the 10R is upto 116Hp where the 9 is at 95Hp. I think what I am saying, is that even with the built in flat spot in the 10s power curve, it still pisses on the 9. At th etop end of the rev range, the 9 is running 0.6Hp per Kg and the 10 is at 0.89Hp oper Kg. Take into account ram air and the ten is nearly 1:1, twice as powerful as a dodge viper - and that's suitable for someone on their Ps?

And just for reference, the only difference between the 06 and 07 is colour. Perhaps the paint is heavier?

thanks for the break down, how about the gear ratios how do they come into it in terms of actual accelleration.

Wisc, how about you get one of these and then you can definitely test your 9 against an '07 10...

Ok after a quick look on my gearing calculator hears is what i came up with.

Gearing 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th 6th Primary drive Final drive

ZX9R 03 model 36/14 33/12 28/18 28/21 24/20 23/21 1.714 16/41

ZX10R 07 model 38/15 39/19 33/19 32/21 29/21 30/24 1.611 17/40

Speed in KPH at 12000rpm

ZX9R 125 165 206 240 267 292

ZX10R 151 186 220 251 277 306

Speed in KPH at 6000rpm

ZX9R 62 82 103 120 133 146

ZX10R 75 93 110 125 138 153

An 05 ZX10R actually has taller gearing than a 07 so accelarates slower because of it in general terms but because of the extra weight and power delivery it doesnt seem that way.

And yes I really do have too much time on my hands, i really need a new project bike to work on.

well that makes sense! Obviously it wasn't a 636 he recognised.. mainly due to the fact that it was a 10!

perfect sense!

So to sum this up, STOCK 07 model zx10 and 06 as there isn't much difference appart from heavier paint, isn't faster than a Tweaked 9 down low. Up top it's a different story. :P

If you have more time on your hands, can you now figure in wind resistance/aerodynamics , power to weight and quarter mile times??
