I had the same question a few months ago, just do a search mate.
Dainese seems to be the best, and they're $200+

Seeing as you're in Qld I'd recommend going and seeing Phil @ Highside Leather Repairs in Salisbury (South of Brisbane). He will make a back protector to fit you (very good ones) for $90 I think it is.

Re: What back protector to buy?
yeh I did a search and Dainese seems to be popular just checking if there is anything new out that someone might have bought.

Check out the offerings from Knox, ive heard good things about them - UFO seem to be decent as well.
I have a Dainese one and really it is pretty ordinary, but I got the old model without the shoulder straps - got it at a good price though.

I can vouch for the UFO as well. They are a good unit at a good price. Mine is still in excellent nick after 6 years.Nucci wrote:....- UFO seem to be decent as well......
But.....if your happy to pay double the price for *a name*, that you won't actually see when riding your bike

Re: What back protector to buy?
I've got a Dainese that I've had since 1998 and it's really good. I've had to...er ....make some adjustment to accomodate physical changes
but it's good
In short I think they are all pretty good and certainly better than nothing at all. Wouldn't be without one.

Re: What back protector to buy?
I have looked at these a few times. Go and have a look around in the shops and try a few different models on. I did and still found that the Dianese was the best quality and appeared to be the most supportive as well as having the best fit for me. Mind you, it wasn't that much better than my old Dianese back protector I already hav, so I just kept it. The UFO and KNOX may be good value in your opinion so check them out before making a final decision. I just found the Dianese was the best fit and it really does look solid.

Yes, apparently elastic does shrink over time

Mick, I feel this complaint may be common to more than just elastic when it comes to Motorcycles gear! I know that when I was racing my helmet size kept increasing!!

I know that when I was racing my helmet size kept increasing!!I also know that If you leave your rae suit hanging up for 12 months....they shrink too!!!! Cause I did that, and when I tried to wear it next time it wouldn't fit!! So it must be so! I also had the same thing happen with my Textile suit! It was loose as buggery when I bought it, but I didn't use it over summer and sure enough...when I put it on next time, it was a tight fit! Once again proof positive that if you are not constantly wearing your bike gear, it shrinks!
