Seriously, though, I gotta agree with you, Gos. I babysat kids for 2 years and the older one (girl) was 11 and she just got into using MSN Messenger... needless to say, she was typing something I THOUGHT was English, but I wasn't too sure, considering the lack of vowels, excess emoticons (whatever happened to conveying your mood through the use of a sentence?) and abbreviations I saw with meanings that were almost completely obscure to me (as it happened, the abbreviations themselves were misspelled). I told her she was a smart girl and that she needed to be better than the scum around her who don't want to learn and actually put effort into learning the language we speak / write on a day-to-day basis.

Things have changed since I grew up and I'm only young... Parents don't care if their kids can't spell or use words in the correct tense. Teachers THEMSELVES cannot spell... I spent most of primary school teaching my teachers how to spell / create sentences. High school I actually learnt further, but primary school was a waste of time. I don't know if I'm weird but I could read and write sentences easily before going to Montessori / kindergarten, let alone reception... So could my sister and 3 of my brothers. So could all of the kids I went to primary school with (except for those who were challenged, i.e Down's syndrome etc).

These days, I'm teaching people OLDER than me to spell because they're stupid and don't want to learn - if they did, they'd make a change and learn a language... sure it's hard, but do you want your kid growing up to think you're stupid as fuck because you can't put a sentence together? Guess it wouldn't make a difference, considering the kid will be as short-sighted and ignorant as you, only to grow up and spend a life turning good oxygen into carbon dioxide.

And for god's sake:
