Probably been done to death but my insurance renewal with Swann is $134 3rd party fire and theft. InsureMyBike is $114 but not sure if it is the same cover or just 3rd party, comprehensive is $440 for agreed value $8000 $1000 gear cover $1000 modifications, this seems good to ? over 50 under 10000km per year full license full no claim bonus. Still waiting on QBE.
Should I go the whole hog comprehensive or stick with with the 3rd part fire and theft. Thoughts, pleasant ones only please. If anyone is in the industry and want to get more details pm me. Ta
edit Further update eBike comprehensive on $9000.00 $294.00, anyone had dealings with them this does look good.

Go comprehensive

Re: INSURANCE - HELP!!!
Always go comprehensive if there is any way you can afford it. I've worked in the industry a lot of years; it is a sad truth that those who can least afford to insure are most likely to suffer in the event of a claim. A person who struggles to scrape up $500-$1000 for comprehensive insurance is proper fucked in the event of a major claim. If you can't come up with $500-$1000 on a year's notice (you DO know your renewal date a year in advance...) then how do you expect to get by if you bin your bike and it's only insured for Third Party and you have to cough up thousands for a repair/replacement on short notice.
It is great to minimise expenses but let me tell you insurance is probably not one you should be cutting your corners on. You should also be very careful to disclose COMPLETE information and not just stuff they ask about. I commonly have people say "nah not really" to my question "Are there any modifications to your bike"... I could easily move on to the next question but invariably the "Nah" means pipe, sprockets, k&n filter, braided lines, etc so I have to pry and pry and pry to get the full details.... many of which an insurance company could easily decline a claim for. MAKE SURE YOU GIVE FULL INFORMATION, and don't be one of the many who bitch & moan about insurance companies for LEGITIMATELY declining a claim.
Word of mouth & internet forums are a nice start but do your own research, read the policy wordings (all of which are freely available on insurer websites). Look into the exact wordings, it is a legal requirement that they are in plain English so whie they're big documents they should be easy to read. If you have any questions call the insurer and note down the name of the person you spoke to, time & date and the details of the call. In the event of a dispute such notes will be worth more than gold!! Things to look out for are limits (eg. $2000 gear cover is no good for someone with a $1200 helmet if it is limited to $500 an item) and value wordings. In particular look for AGREED VALUE and a particular figure, in preference to MARKET VALUE. Many insurers will give you "$9000 or market value whichever is the lesser" which means they charge you at $9,000 and pay you at whatever they decide the bike is worth in the event of a claim.
I do not know much about eBike but from memory they are a 'DOFI' or direct offshore insurer which as a general rule should be avoided. It doesn't mean that they won't/can't pay a claim, but my understanding is that such companies don't have to meet the same (or as many) regulatory laws & financial controls as insurers based locally (or with local outlets). Please don't quote me on this but it is worth keeping in mind (or looking into) and sticking with a company that is an agent for, or underwritten by, a major local company.
