MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM M3's!!!!!

Post by Strika »

With summer coming up, I slipped out to Pablo's in Glen Waverley and had a new set of...................no drum roll neccessary......you guessed it.........Metzler M3's fitted! 8)

Race take offs are great in the colder weather but tend to disappear at a rapid rate during rides in warmer temps. This time however, I have fitted an M3 front instead of the Racetech K2 front. I figured if the hard front Pirelli on the beemer can hold up to it, the M3 front will walk it in! So, this Sunday all things being equal, I will be attempting to take the shine off em! Oh.....and I washed the bike on the way to get the tyres fitted. It looks good enough to go get covered in bugs again! :)

Gotta Luv the 9 and gotta Luv those M3's! ;)

Yeah they're pretty good. I just chucked a fresh one on the back ready for EC next Thu, so I'll be scrubbing that this Sat hopefully. They bloody last forever though.

002's are a SS tyre, so are always going to have more grip than a street tyre. This is the fifth or sixth M3 rear I have had, so already know that they grip great and last better than every sports road tyre I have tried thus far. Cold grip is good and when they eventually do let go, they are smooth and predictable. Turn in is a little less radical on the M3's, but they turn fine for the road.

And Stereo, FFS stick a thread up will ya mate!!! So....are we doing some familiarisation klms on the ten on Sunday mate???????? :D

Yeah the 002's i got are the Race/Stree version, you cant choose compunds etc etc. Are these the ones you call SS.
I can tell you the grip is like nothing ive ever tried before and i love them, but man they shred :)
I'd love to find a tyre that turns in like these ( has to be 190/55), has good progressive grip and last longer!! :)
This tyre has 3000km lots of twisties and i've got a trackday on Thursday

If you have the 002 Street compound tyre and are happy with it then I can understand Watties kishy strip comment!!! I have tried the 002 Street compound and consider it to be the worst tyre I have ever used, and that is being as polite as I can about it!!!!! I am speaking of the pucka Supersport race tyre 002 race! It comes in a medium and a soft compund. Either compound is good.

For track use I would look at Racetechs, 002 race, Pilot race, Pirelli Super Corsa, or even the Dunlop sportmax race if wear isn't important to you. The Supersport runners rate the 002 front as the best in the business. I certainly havn't been able to get one to move at two or three seconds of lap record pace. The good guys probably can, I think it's just an ability thing but ;)

For street use with an occasional track day preference would be M3, Diablo, 014/015, Pilot, Qualifier all in that order. :)

Please note this is just what I like, and rider preference and lack of ability must be factored into the use of the above opinions. As usual none ofthe above is based on fact, it's just shit I make up on the spur of the moment! ;)

Once upon a time...in a forum four..teen crashes ago...there was a rather humble yet brilliant rider who often wrote intelligent and well thought out posts and who rode like Casey Stoner on lap 4 suffering a case of Diorhea! His name was Kishy! Hence, the little bits of unused tyre previously referred to as "Chicken Strips" are now fondly termed "Kishy Strips" while here in everyones favourite forum KSRC! ;) HTH
