Saw a 1098s in the flesh in Dubai last Saturday it is a bloody horny beast, the green machine could take a few lessons in aesthetics from Ducati, the current zx10r is butt ugly.
I am pretty tempted to go over to the dark side and get a Duc, here in the UAE they are pretty cheap I have put an offer in on a 2001 996s with 5000kms on it plus extras for AU$13K. You can get a brand new superseded '06 999 for AU$21K. The dealer also had a 2005 749R with low kms for AU$19K. The Jap bikes over here are expensive except for Hondas (with good reason!) there is a 2003 cbr954 with 2300kms and micron and scott steering damper for AU$7K.
The only kwakas you get to see around here are clapped out zzr250s & 400s and there are a couple of zx14s in the emirates. There is no official Kwaka dealer for the UAE.
The prices here are ride away, there is no stamp duty or VAT, yet!

Saw one today in the flesh up on Mt Coot-tha,bloke picked it up on monday and still running it in.Sitting next to a new R6 and there isn't much diff in size-ducati v.narrow up front,i was bit skeptical bout looks as i like the 999 shape but this looks way better in the flesh.

And would anyone bitching about the "Ducati" cup please tell me the NEXT best Ducati in the champ OTHER than Troy Bayliss
Any old excuse in a storm.
Fact IS Ducati spend a MINT to make the suckers competative.
And still ONLY Troy can make the sucker do any good.
yep it was different in the bad old days of 750's but a twin is NEVER going to equal a four of the same capacity unless it is bombed to within an inch of it VERY short racing life.
Anyone want to come through with some FACTS that prove other wise I will eat my words but I wont be holding my breath...

Supposed to be upping the CC limit for twins to allow privateers to be more competitive as at the moment only the factory (well only Troy) can compete. But I can see it going straight back to being the Ducati Cup all over again.
The theory is that SBK won't survive without Ducati's, and Ducati won't stay if they can't win. Lose/lose situation for World Supers

Re: New ducati 1098
Yeh, but now the Superbike rules have changed they will be bringing out a 1198 or something, so the 1098 is outdated already....

Re: New ducati 1098
The 999cc ducati is allowed to use a higher state of tune than the 4s, including specialised conrods among other things.
Ducati want to go to a 1200cc so they can run pretty much the same tuning rules as the i4s - thus, making their SBK racer closer to the roadbike in the shops.
Seems logical to me; for years the rules allowed 100cc twins or 750cc i4s - if the i4s can now be litrebikes the twins should be allowed to grow too.

Re: New ducati 1098
Why don't they just use a Four Cylinder then if it's a better engine...instead of taking a handicap
