RTA's new ad campaign.
smh story link here. Oh and if you want to look at the link, go to this coralised link as the high res vid is there, and the rta website, urm, has pretty much been hammered with international interest in the advertisement.

Re: RTA's new ad campaign.
I think the RTA really needs to get a reality check.
They show 3 scenes and overlay the last one with the bullshit 'speeding' message.
FFS, only the second one was speeding. The other two were burnouts.
I agree with the small dick thing though. I mean, what does it prove anyway. I can lay rubber in my 1.5l n/a front wheel drive nana car.

Look at what they are doing in California and Ontario....

Yesterday we learned that California has begun the practice of crushing modified cars obtained while being used for the illegal and dangerous activity of street racing. The hope is that seeing their expensive toys flattened by a compress will deter street racers from endangering the lives of others on public roads. Judging from the news coming out of Canada, it appears that the province of Ontario is prepared to go one step further. Ontario Attorney General Michael Bryant has stated that the authorities in his province will confiscate and crush vehicles built for street racing before they even put rubber to pavement on city streets.

Re: RTA's new ad campaign.
Can't see it working very well.
From my dim recollections of my own misspent youth, I hung out with friends that had the same antisocial tendencies as me. Which was mostly about riding large capacity sports bikes at ridiculously fast speeds for long distances. Sometimes in groups of up to about 30 bikes. We probably frightened a few little old ladies and made a few country coppers cranky when they couldn't decide which of the bikes going past them at 200+km/h to try to pull over, but we generally didn't harm anyone but ourselves (although the potential was there, obviously) and we didn't really care if anyone else thought we were idiots. We knew some of the shit we did was arguably stupid, but when you're a young bloke feeling ten feet tall and bulletproof, how much are you going to care?
The campaign is apparently supposed to make such behaviour socially unacceptable. Unfortunately, that ignores the fact that it already largely is.
It's just another nana ad campaign directed at young 'uns, but designed by middle-aged, pony-tail wearing, baby-boomer suits called Siimon and Niigel who have fuck-all meaningful contact with the demographic. The pinkie finger thing was explained as "meaning, in youth culture, that one has a small penis". As I recall, that gesture has been around since at least the early '80's, so I guess that means anyone under about 45 is youff, then.
Which is handy, because I'm still misspending mine! I figure getting older is compulsory, but growing up is optional.

Re: RTA's new ad campaign.
i find the add stupid..
so its saying only guys do that stuff lol..
yeh right ok, they obviously dont go to the local hangouts... i know i was one of them and still am but now i have gone from 4 wheels to 2 and will mainly be doing my speeding at the track..
but seriously the add wont stop anyone, the people who do it arent at home when the ads are on as they are out on teh streets doing what the add is trying to deter..
im with neka give me the grousome adds that show what the outcome of their actions is and how its gonna affect them..
and they think the new p plate rules are gonna stop this as they arent in turboed cars and V8's well i have news for them, my 4 cylinder civic smoked it up as good as the v8 and still has enough power to get to speeds that are classed as dangerous, so long as they are behind the wheel of any vehicle they will be dangerous, how about targeting before they even get there with better education and training..
why is it we have to do a 2 day course to learn how to start and control a motorcycle by a professional yet we only have to sit a 20 min theory test to get our l plates for a car and then they let our parents teach us how to drive??? doesnt seem logical to me...then again im just a 22 yo female who wouldnt know how the hoon actions will affect them.. yet im in the age bracket they are targeting and ive lost mates because of the things they are trying to stop and i have done it all myself.. yet they dont ask us to help plan ads and campainges...
ok ill get off the soap box now ...

ahh thats where u go wrong...mitch179 wrote:im still going to go fast do wheelies and burnouts just to spite this stupid ad haha!
the trick is doing the burnouts and wheelies SLOWLY...
i once argued with a cop over my wheelie fine... he got me for "failure to maintain effective control of vehicle" ...i argued that "wheelying thru 3 gears, and keeping it to 80kph in an 80 zone was bloody great control" !!
still fined me tho...bastard...
