whats the best connection to use for sound etc??
basicly my new tv has
HDMI
Co-ax

RCA

im currently running the Digital (s/pdif) to the home theatre for optimum sound, and looking for a decent dvd player (existing shitty dvd player only has RCA).....

I don't really know except you probably shouldn't have bothered putting svideo in the list as it's the most shitty connection known to man.
I do know i'm interested in replys cause i won a Dell 2400MP projector last week and am currently running RCA video under the house for my video, i need a good surround system though with digital sound inputs and outputs and need to get a projector stand made up to sit behind the couch cause i' not allowed to drill hole sin my house

I have my home theatre set up with the digital cable for sound. And i use component for picture, TV is a plasma with in built digital tuner. All this makes for very good viewing..
S-Video is better than your average set up.
So buy yourself a digital lead for your sound, and a new dvd player, your dvd player should have a digital port and so should your amp / theatre system, and use the component ports for you pic.. You will also have to run another twin rca cable from your DVD player from sound out to sound input on tv, so if you just want to watch dvd via tv with no theatre speakers on.
Anything else you want to know ask away my friends.. I knew all this research would come in handy one day..

Fark, how complicated just to watch the idiot box.
I wanted wireless surround speakers, until I realised the only power sockets in the lounge were behind the TV!

Rubbish. S-video is significantly better than composite ("RCA video") because it separates the luminance and chrominance signal. BTW, RCA is just the plug on the end, it doesn't specify anything about the video signal. You could have component video going through three RCA cables.jewjew wrote:I don't really know except you probably shouldn't have bothered putting svideo in the list as it's the most shitty connection known to man.

BTW, you will probably be disappointed if you're going to use the Dell projector for movies. Image quality is not a priority for presentations.
If you can make an HDMI connection then go for it. It's digital so you don't need to buy expensive cables. Lovely thing with digital is that if there aren't any errors showing up, your signal is as perfect as it can get. Component is very good too, but it is analog so cable quality has some effect.
