ZX12R Fairings

Post by shadowzx9 »

Mainly a question for 12 owners, but open to DECENT suggestions from all

Theres is a shitty piece of molded plastic, that sits between the 2 cowls of a ZX12R, its shaped like a V, not surprisingly its called a V Piece

Well I fracking hate this thing, coz ive gone and Busted another one riding off a damned gutter, the thing split faster than Paris Hiltons legs at the sight of a camera lens

So my question, any 12 owners got one laying around? or know where to source one that doesnt involve paying 206 pacific pesos to Team Moto

Failing the search for a reqplcement, give Lawrence at Collide-a-Scope a ring - he may be able to fix it.

Someone who can plastic weld will do wonders. Other than that I've got one you can have for $8000, I'll throw in the '00 model that's attached to it for free.

Sorry, couldn't resist,

how broken is it? if its a clean crack you (or i ?) may be able to plastic weld it up. after that i'd recommend glassing up behind it for a bit of strengthening.

did the same thing on the front mudguard on my gpx750, never had a problem again post-glassing.

thats the best bet - mine has also cracked on the LH side, its only small but it still shits me....

I have been considering getting some of that 'bling' flexible adhesive checkerplate, and covering the entire V-piece with it............that would add some strength to the stock plastic, and maybe look a bit flash as well.....

Plastic welding it isnt an option, its seriously crunched.

There is a lug for want of a better term at the point where you screw in from either side of the fairing to locate the bottom, thats gone, and the 4 push in points are mangled beyond repair.

Fark it all to hell, ive got cable ties holding it (the fairing) together

And neka, riding a naked isnt an option for me, its like riding a scooter or a fat chick, ill do it, but ill never admit to it

Try http://www.findapart.com.au no harm asking the question.

Glue the two bits together,

buy some fibreglass cloth and some resin and casting wax.... Wax the outside of the unit and cover with fibreglass to make a "negative"....

Leave it until it completely dry, and then wax the inside, fill with fibreglass and resin..... pull it out and use a cutting tool (a small circular cutter) to cut the remaining bits off....

primer and paint.....

Make 8 of them and sell 6 on Ebay...

Just a thought
The world is round. It has no point.
