And I was so smug when I pointed that out, and then twisted his arm for two replacements.

I didn't come down in the last shower. or the one before...

yup, you'd be able to get that rim looking like brand new I reckon since it hasn't cracked the bead and it's only a slight bend.

And get it repainted any colour you want :)

Its unregistered, so I suppose it doesn't really matter. As is where is. He gave me a brand new rear tyre and he will get me a front one later. He just didn't have one there at the time. I bought it from a wrecker, so you kinda expect something ... unexpected. I certainly have no reason to complain. He doesn't try to bullshit me and has always given me a good deal. The bike only needs two tyres, a headlight and a rear brake light switch to be roadworthy. We've sorted the piggy idle out of the motor already. 8) Gotta love having your own mechanic.

On another subject; I was a bit unsure of the mileage. It looked too good to be true. I found the service book in that hidey hole under the seat...

I think someone has replaced a couple of bits. :)
But, what I do know is that it was sold at Brighton Kawasaki in Feb 96 to a guy from Sth Melb and it was still in Melbourne in 99.

I reckon the dash, screen and upper fairing were all replaced. I can find damage marks consistent with a right hand lowside, but those parts are unmarked. A previous owner was 'doing it up' and I reckon he lost interest or more likely ran out of money, hence unloading it at the wreckers.
I hear what you're saying about the dodgy shit. I was too busy congratulating myself for sussing it, to consider what might have happened if someone less sharp had bought it.

Still at the end of the day, I've got a solid bike that only needs a bit of tlc and it will end up costing me way less than the gpx did.

that whole tyre thing, that's insanely dodgy. reminds me of the rear on my ltd450 when i was too broke to get a replacement for a few weeks. Got it down to the canvas :$.

Ok, I got this on Thursday and I wasn't allowed to pull it apart til the head mechanic had taken it for a spin. Then we had to tune it. Friday I had to work and yesterday and today the weather was too good not to go for a ride, but in between times I've got this much done. I've welded the cracks in the tail section and tomorrow will do that bit that goes between the side fairing and the tank and a small one in the top fairing. Then I start ripping off the paint.

Come on, you know how rough these dealership mechanics are. We're talking about my baby. He only gets to fix what I can't. Besides, this one is a piece of cake. All the screws and bolts are the right ones in the right place - except for the two self drilling roofing screws under the tail and two phillips heads with road rash that I had trouble removing. I spent $40+ at the wreckers on bolts and screws for the gpx.

Well it took longer than I thought it would - because I thought I'd be able to hide in the shed for a week and it just didn't happen that way - but I've managed to rip the crappy paint off. In some places it must have been a millimetre thick! Just looky what is under it though.

A lot of it doesn't even have sanding marks. :?

Still needs a new front tyre, gear lever and the loop that goes on the speedo cable. And that exhaust looks so crappy, I'll have to replace it now. :(
