Care for a repsol paintjob?

Post by tyreshredder »

Hey gents. I've been kicking round this forum for about 6 months now, and finally managed to upgrade off the old 1983 GSX 250 (ugh, you can see it in the third pic) to a CBR250RR, and christ what an upgrade! Sorry guys, down here in Tassie there is just so little in the way of ZXR250s around so it had to be the CBR250. But tbh im glad i bought it rather than a ninja, the condition its in for the price i got it is just unbeatable.
Im 17 at the mo, with 6 months riding under my belt and bloody lovin it

Finally got around to taking pics of my new (well old i suppose)250RR.

It's a 1991 Honda CBR250RR(L) with 29,000 KMs and the factory repsol (doohan?) paint scheme. Best part was i managed to pick it up for $4400 delivered to where i work  Its in extremely good condition, the only things that needed doing after i picked it were a new chain and sprokets (DID) and a new rear tyre (pilot activ). Everything mechnically and cosmetically is A1, except for the oxidized can (WTF?), and a big crack in the brake light fairing area.

Although i havnt got much to compare it to, ive ridden a mates ZZR250, and to be honest i would buy the CBR over it every time. Its got more power, handles much better, has a much bigger boot, looks so much better, is a 4 cylinder, revs harder, more modern...............need i go on?

Anybody got any idea what the hell happened to the pipe? Ive seen alot of CBRs around and at dealers and such, but havnt seen one with a pipe that has oxidized like this one has. The whole can has lost is shine, is rough and has pitting in some spots. Any idea how much a replacement would be?

Option 1)Fine wet and dry sand paper, many-many, hours of wet sanding then Autosol. Good luck
Option 2 pick up an aftermarket!

Damn, i thought that might be the case. You should've seen the place i picked it up from. It wasn't near the water, but it was raining and the dirt driveway had about potholes the size and depth of basketballs, all covered with a 1 inch layer of oil and rain

Sure mike no probs, any particluar area/part that you want in detail or just a general shot? I can't remember whether it was 82 or 83 when the GSX went to a moulded tank :?: should be awesome to see it restored :D

thanks she is pretty tidy, once the garage is complete, i can give it a good wash and detail. can't wait to get the fairings off and have a good gander inside!

Ooh, repsol, just like Nicky Hayden. That big poof. Bucket of matt black anyone?

CBRRRR RRR RR Arr Arrrrrr me laddies RRs are good fun little 250s, they suck arse in town due to shitty steering lock primarily, but out on the open road that thing is a wee racer. As you live in Tassie, where every road's a set of twisties and the biggest town would be called a holiday village by anyone else's standards, you'll absolutely love it.

Well mines listed as a late '82 model and its slabsided as hell with the knee cutouts, so i have a feeling its '83 that they went the moulded tank.

I was mostly after a general shot just to get an idea of what it looks like, etc..
Cheers if you do put one up b.t.w. Aside from the tank the first thing ive noticed different between yours and mine is your engine is painted black with the machined fin edges shiny. Mine isn't painted at all and frankly is a mottled white/grey colour thanks to environmental corrosion  . But ive made the first step and taken the carbs out, more updates in my thread :).

If you don't have leather pants get them, they're more important than a pipe, that one looks like it would polish up easily anyway.

Hit the can with a scotchbrite pad and some water, then a good going over with some autosol metal polish. It'll come up with a nice satin shine that'll look great and is cheap and easy to do.

I really cant stand hayden, an arrogant crybaby american really dosnt help honda at all
holiday village sounds about right too!

Thanks man :) . Yeah as neka says above this is the paint job used for ages in the 90s. You cant really tell in the pics but the main colour is a dark green/teal whereas the new blade is black.
