Any thoughts or experiences out there?

Cheers

One thing I have been told is not to swap oil brands / types too much as your bike does get used to running them.... dunno how true this is but I had trouble with my 9 when I changed the brand once...

To backup what you said, perusing through the owners manual on my 6R it states to use the same oil that is in the motorcycle when changing however does not state why.

On the subject of Motul 5100, my ZZR has 500 km or so to its next oil change, and the gearbox IS getting clunky ...

On the use of Optimax, I've used it in my car and my bikes for some time. I haven't had any problem. Mind you, Optimax and Ultimate are the same fuel around these parts. Vortex is OK, too. I'll only use 91 octane if I REALLY have to - poor old bike pings like a tin box full of spanners.

Always used motul. When I got the brakes done I got an oil change done with it and the guys used shell. Doesn't feel as smooth as Motul. Get alot more false neutrals, and goddammed crunching (even between gear neutrals!)

Doing another oil change this week cos its due for it, and going straight back to motul.

Main reason is that when you drain your oil you dont get it all out(changing it when hot and draining for as long as possible helps). So when you refill it with a different type of oil they mix and not all oils mix well.If you keep doing this you end up with all sorts of oils mixed up in there, not good.

i'd probably disagree as if u change the filter u'll be left with milli-litres of old oil compared to 3-4 litres of new oil.

i cant see this being a problem.

yeh but do you realise how much oil stays in the galeries, in the pump, and around the bearings?
Enough to cause a reation if there is ever going to be one.
Seen some funky shit with oils over the years.

Find a product you like, and just stick to it.

Damn straight! Yesterday (day after oil/filter change), put her through her paces at the trackday. 9K+ (out of 12.5 for those of you who don't own 7Rs), heaps and heaps of clutchless gear changing and she didn't miss a beat. Smooth, crisp, fast, everytime.
